Yup. 39 is the official count. :) 38 made it to the track, and at least Jason's started up. That's more than I can say for mine right now.
nope, the official count is 42 actually.

Cam and I both counted 39 trucks at the track, Jasons truck as well as another one were left at the Hotel, making 41... and theres one other that was mentioned by the Staff that I forgot about and cant remember at this time.

Is this the most ever at the Nats? What's the record?

Fast but unfortunately its no record setting ass hauling. What does Robert think were the factors in not running another 8: humidity, temperature, elevation?

not even close to a record. I believe 98 & 99 were the highest and 02 gave it a run for its money, I dont know exact numbers, but I have heard "a hundred trucks" back in 98/99.

Re: 2006 Nationals Pictures....

we had over a 100 in 2000... I'm pretty sure it was the highest turn out.... and we had a rediculous number of people show up. We printed a crap-load of extra packets and ran out fast.

2000 was the biggest count for trucks/people

103 Trucks, and over 300 people.

Yep, I was there in 2000. I believe it is the year that GM showed up with their trucks. You could not drive anywhere without seeing another syty just driving around town. Kinda freaky, in a good way.

....and don't forget the quality of the vehicles and vendors who attended besides:
-Hoovers, Guy Levy, Howie Automotive/Dean, McCoys (all 10 sec vehicles)
-GM, Rockford Racecraft, PTE, McCoy, and many more vendor booths
-Live tutorial Tech Sessions (Brian Hartman on transmissions)
-Cruise/local car show at Hooters one night (with street racing)
-not to mention to coordinated north, south, east, and west carvans broadcasting
there relative positions along the way (with there own stories and stream of syty`s)

It was truly a 3-day, labor day, SyTy Great Event. Ive always thought the
KC Hotel, and September scheduling was a selling point (short week, security, and
later gathering for tuned/assembled trucks); plus multiple events for family entertainment.
Even the locals (like Norm) participated in pulling this off.

So, it can be done, but it takes more than committe members to do it. Everytime
a segment gets pissed off, more vehicles/owners are lost and dont show up.
While the hey-days may be over, I think the showing this year is proof that
people will come - (the attraction being the racing vehicles and the friendships)
if promoted.

In other words, a "field of dreams approach"; build it and they will come.
In the SyTy World, this means getting the 10-fastest SyTys in one place
(whether for racing and/or showing), and participants will come. But it
would take someone with clout or sponsorship to pull it off at this junction.
Not a lot of "healing potential" in this group....for better or worse.

Re: 2006 Nationals Pictures....

There were many thanks that year to help make the 00 Nats the biggest. I busted my ass for a full year and came alot of money out of pocket to make it all worthwhile for people to still talk about 6 years later.

Jimmy, you are exactly right when you say it takes more than committee members. It takes the owners and enthusiasts who have the passion and care to want to goto a fun event and come back home with some insane memories that they wont soon forget.

Over the past few years, even though I havent been able to attend due to personal things going on, the event has moved in the direction of seeing and hanging out with friends more than just the trucks alone. Yeah, its cool to see whos going to be the fastest nastiest truck, but its more about getting together and being able to talk and share stories nonstop about eveything truck without anyone getting tired of hearing it...

Yeah, theres always some sort of show that ruffles feathers or bends someone out of shape.... Jesus and his wife, Bdubb, BuschSchwimmer, KAK.... but in the end we all come out with a pretty good attitude and cant wait for next year.

Next year will mark 10 years for the Nats.... hopefully there is one to goto.

Re: 2006 Nationals Pictures....

Count me in for the next one. Glad I could be there at this one. Got to meet new friends and ride in some sick trucks. The only thing that I regret is that my truck didn't make it this year. Hate to hear about rivals. I think with as rare as these trucks are we should all be in it together. I try to learn as much as I can so I can pass it along down the road. By the way I want to thank everyone that showed up. Every truck and story they brought was worth while.

My wife and I are already figuring out next year... We're debating between US SyTy Nats and using Canadian Nats as an excuse to visit Canada eh?

But seeing as how next year is No. 10, it should be something worth attending! If there's anything I can do, let me know! ....as long as I'm not too busy with the rebuild of SyTy.org.

i'll be building my truck to safely make it to the nats next year. i agree theat its all about the frienships we make based on the fact that we have a common interest. there needs to be less griping/complaining on this board and more fellowship/support. we have an amazing group of people that are members here, lets show up 00 next year, with a hundred plus trucks. the 10th anniversary will be a nats to remember.

<Dont shoot the messenger, cuz Im just brainstorming a bit

I agree that the SyTy Community is pretty special. Im wondering if the following would work:
Still have the KC Nationals, but also entertain a Racing Simulcast, where during that time period
-the Canadians would be running at their respective track,
-the Atco folks would be running at their respective track
-the non-usa folks would be running at their respective tracks
-and the CA, and FL guys would be running at their respective tracks

all running for the "fastest" in the respective classes. Video files of a submitting
eligible run would be sent (during the KC Nat`s) to qualify - and Elevation/temps/humidity
factors would NOT be factored in. If you ran 9.xx and were the fastest (verified via
video and uploaded to central server for posting during the KC Racing Venue)
you won (that category).

KC Nats Committe wouldnt care if you were ok`d by your local tech guys
(ie required or not); or ran alone where your time could be posted (but
didnt enforce NHRA equipment...or did enforce NHRA equipment).

A kinda Hands-Across-the-Globe Racing with those attending KC Nats
competing at the same time with Chitown, Canada, Sweden, NE, W, S, etc.
racers. This way, we can "remotely" race against Ed, Mike/Rpm, or Tom F
(for example) and still have those folks at Nat`s in KC for face-face gathering.

Bestest ET (remote or local at KCIR) wins.....:)

...<end of wild idea>

West Coast Nats? How about Denver Nats? See how well everyone does at 5280'.

Wherever Nats 10 is, it should be the best ever  If we start planning now, it should be. ;)

The nice thing about it being in KC is that it is centrally located. However I would be down for one is CO also.

Next year is gonna be the year. So tell your wife/kids/boss now, expect me to be gone for a weekend next year and return smelling of burned exhaust fumes with purple hair, a road rashed leg, a pile of prizes, a handfull of new friends, and with a smile ear to ear.
