Accell was supposed to make an elbow to do just what everyone is doing now with the Eldebrock intake. It was in another thread. For certain reasons, they scrapped the project. This one, though, looks nicer and is much less expensive.

Pretty sure that elbow is hand fabricated. Doesn't look like a production piece that was made by a company.

Do you have any links to the auctions? I'll take 3 dozen at that price. :D

I have been looking for a SyTy lower intake for about 2-3 years and never found one cheaper than 300 bucks or so, and that was back in the beginning of my search. I wound up paying 350 just for a lower sight-unseen in unknown condition, and that was the best deal I could find. I'm still in the market for another though, especially if I can get them for the prices you're talking about :)

I didn't notice much of a problem at your power range. It wasn't until I got in the low 11's that it started showing up. Started to get different plug readings. Not sure if you have a sy or Ty...low 11s in a ty is a distance from high 11s in a sy. If you had a strong bottom end and if you had a 72m turbo running 28# with a decent set of heads spinning at 6,000+ rpms and pushing a 4,100# ty down the track low 11s with a stock style intake, we would be interested in how your plugs looked and how well you could manage your tune. Be sure you let us know when that happens. Like I said I never had any syty intake problems in your hp range either and I doubt anyone else has.

Good luck with your ongoing experiments!

Re: 2114 MPFI with custom plenum

interesting. you say "primary thing" meaning the intake wasn't the only thing he changed??? i would be in the boat if this was the only variable that changed between runs. what else went along with the intake swap? .4+ is quite a big jump....

as far as the cheap intakes most have a really low "buy it now" price because people don't know what they have so they aren't on there long (couple of hours max). i saw a new piece of rear pass cladding go for $150 buy it now. i have also seen the exact same piece go for $381 + shipping on a regular auction. the key is to be the guy that buys it for $150... not $400. shop smart and check ebay a couple times a day if you are looking for something in particular. i don't check a lot these days because i'm not looking for anything but if i happen to see a cheap intake setup i will post it on this thread. if what you say about the lofty price is true maybe i will have to start buying them up for stock!!!!!

keep on it and you will find one for cheap. good luck gumshoe!

Significant performance gains can be made due to better air/fuel distribution and a less restrictive intake. With the stock intake(s), certain cylinders always run richer/leaner than others. If you tune close to the edge at WOT you should assume you will have some cylinders running leaner than the collective sum. I believe John Gerber (WindedV6) told me when he went from low 11's to his 10.6 run the primary thing that got him there was changing out the stock intake.

Don't get me wrong, you can go fast with the stock upper/lower (mine has the stockers) but it definitely isn't the best design. For the money spent on porting and moving the injector bungs on my stock intake it would have been a better choice to go this route.

Re: 2114 MPFI with custom plenum

You guys wanna see messed up distrobution,... I had 6lbs of boost on a 2114 intake with a holley adapter to put a 2 barrel TBI on it with 2 55lb injectors running at double the fuel pressure spraying meth ontop of that.. IT was a mess.. When i pulled the heads off that motor the cylinder were different colors completly..

So ya i go from one extreem to the other.. Also i have to modify that plenum now because of the size of the adapters and 90's i had to use to plumb it..I'll post the updates as i finish

Oh the ones in the manifold, those were spares from the throttle body, we were just using them to align everything up at we test fit everything they only had enough threads to turn the nut like 3 times but it was easier then the long studs being on and taking it in and out.

The throttle body got some work done also, the holes were all machined for 5/16 studs and the top hole was machined so a full size socket and nut fits on it. Also the face and mounting suface was machined flat along with the screw holes being helicoiled. The guys at CAMS (the local race motor shop) they were all worried about the studs ripping out of the aluminum etc and said they'd had it happen with 15-18lbs of boost and those little studs that fit in those holes so the coiled mine, used hardened studs that actually were some kinda cylinder head studs for god only know what and then machined it all to get it fit.
