2inch hard pipe

I have this aluminum 2" hard pipe for a stock turbo and intercooler. I have been to many exhaust places and they say they can't bend it. They say that they will just crimp it in half. I would be nice to get it on a mandrel bender but there is none in the area. I know RPM sells one but its for $85!!!!!! Am I wasting my time with this?

Any local race shops? One of our local guys that builds cages has a mandrel bender. You may be able to find a local fabricator that has one.

Just a thought.....hard to believe there are no mandrel bending exhaust shops in the area. I live in a town with a population of 382 (over 97 square miles) and we have 2 shops that mandrel bend.

Option B: Go to an auto parts store, and find a chunk of 2" radiator hose with a 90 or near 90 bend. Much smoother than stock, and mine's held up for 13 years now.

Cheap, easy, and less fabrication. A knife and a screwdriver are the only tools you need.

Yeah, but that's NASCAR country. :)

We're lucky if we can find people that weld.

Agreed. Here are two hoses that most stores would have in stock. Can't remember what they fit, but anyone with a pulse should be able to cross these numbers.

Gates 20046 - 2" sloping 90 deg bend for stock style turbos
Gates 20957 - 2" sharp 90 deg bend for larger turbos (like the ATR ones that sit higher)

Yeah, that option would not be a bad idea but if you didnt see I have a BOV flange in the picture :). Ha ha. I think I would rather just get the pipe bent with the flange welded on it.

Re: 2inch hard pipe

or buy a mandrel bent pipe. You can buy one 180 degree U bend for cheap...and get 2 pipes out of it.

Re: 2inch hard pipe

IMO the best way to do this is 2 x 45* 2" silicone couplers, points the pipe straight at the IC.

Well guys here is what I ended up with. I'm adding pictures because it might be helpful to someone else to see if they want to go this route.

I used an exhaust hanger to hold the air filter where I wanted it and so its not just moving around all over the place. The bottom pic shows it the best.

Did you put a bead around the openings of the steel pipe? If you don't, the hoses will pop off under boost.

Re: 2inch hard pipe

the problem isnt just finding a mandrel bender, it's finding someone with a die who can bend 2" aluminum on a 2" centerline radius. Any larger radius, and there is no room to tighten the t bolt clamps on the turbo side, especially after you put a bead roll on it. Cheapest way would obviously be rubber, then followed by mild steel. Anything with a larger radius will just pop off, and it would be impossible to bead roll.

Re: 2inch hard pipe

local place "mufflex" they have a web site does it they did a 2.5" one for jeffs ty for like 20-25 bucks and bead rolled it. for a front mount ic not the upper ic but they should be the same bend.

Re: 2inch hard pipe

No I didnt bead roll it. Thats a good idea. I was runing 15 psi and it didnt come off. But after I get my devil's own kit and run 20+ psi Im sure the bead roll with come in handy.

are you going to drill/tap that pipe so you can affix the pcv hose to it?

Yeah Im going to try that. I was thinking about using a T connector and putting the other pvc hose from the driver side vale cover in line with the other.
