Re: 4l80e input shaft Group Purchase

back to price again. make him understand that price will make or break selling more than a hand full. try and get him in the under 500 mark.

when i talked to my trans guy about it, he could get 80e shafts for under 20 bucks, plus machining and heat treat. i bet if i had one i could get them made cheaper than that( my wife's dad is an areospace machinist in san diego) and could prob be around the 400 mark. but i wouldn't know without getting one in his hands. lotta ifs and such.

The biggest question is internal splining (sp).

Internal splining into a blind hole is not easily done by most machine shops. Takes a broach type machine and better yet gear manufacturing equipment. Gear manufacturing in the US has dwindled to almost none at this point. Very sad.

If someone did find someone that could do it, you could do a budget shaft taking a stock shaft, resplining to 32 and then do a heat treat to new machined surface. Never looked into that route but doable.

I have been talking to a company that can do it for sure. They too said the cost comes from the internal splining. They need 15-20 orders to get it to $600ish. You guys that want these are just going to have to suck it up. Is the 6-700 you pay worth the thousands of dollars in damaged 80e's down the road? It's one off parts we're talking about here for the most part. The companies that are capable of making could give a shit about these trucks as they likely have far more important things to do than build 10 shafts for guys that want to pay $100 for it. Especially when they likely spent 50k+ for their machines. It's business, we're just going to have to deal with the cost or not have them. If I needed another one I'd pay $900 for it since I now know what it's like having the 80e, it's well worth the money.

A re-spline 4l80e output shaft is just a little over $100, why not go this route ?

Not sure who can respline for $100, but it has proven to not be as strong as having a new transfercase input shaft made. Although there are several still functioning just fine.

No sweat man.

Lets also not forget the reason why the t-case shaft is what we want. Most guys aren't going to want to open up the trans, not an easy job for most people. The T-case, is easy as pie. By the time you pay someone to rip open your trans just to replace the output shaft you may as well have bought an input shaft for the T-case and have the reassurance that you'll go far.

Everyone please review the list on the 1st page...if it correct we have 32 units requested. I dont see a reason not to get them for $500 with this qty.

If you want to add your name to the list follow suite my quoting the name list and edit your name into it.

Im hearing $650ish on these units...a minimum of 10 will need to be purchased for the order to be made.

I need mine made fairly quick to meet my dead line...so i will buy 2 to help get this order going and sell it off to someone who needs it later.

Re: 4l80e input shaft Group Purchase

I sent an email to this company, and they still have all the drawings ect to produce the shaft as well as the planetary gearset.they produced the original GB unit, I did forward the email to syclone 2960..

I just sent a pricing & lead time request to Kevin for 32+ units...lets see what he comes back with.

So what all else would I need to convert to an 80e? What other costs other than the Trans itself?

Thanks,
Richard
