50# chip/injector uprgrade problem

Just upgraded from KB 40lb street chip and injctors to Ultimate chip, 3 bar MAP, Crane cam and 50# injectors. It DUMPS fuel heavilly at idle, smokes heavily and eventually stalls due to fouled plugs (which are wet when removed).

Reinstalled KB chip and 2 bar MAP. It runs ok but cant go wide open. Its obviously a chip/injector match that is not meant to be.

Have been told by a source that my stock ECM is not compatible with the 50#rs. I would think that my parts suppliers would have told me that if this is the case. Has anyone experienced this problem with this setup? I'm kickin myself in the a** over a $1,200 upgrade that isnt working. S.O.S.

Did you get a chip calibrated for the 50# injectors from whoever you got my chip from?

It is a different set of calibrations.

you have to have the Ultimate chip that was specially programmed for the 50's, else it will not work. The regular Ultimate is for use with the stock injectors I believe. Have you read the FAQ/Readme link on the left?

Just thought of something. Previous owner said that the "computer" was replaced. Yeah, the chip was aftermarket but would if he replaced the ECU with something else....

The 50s are fine with the stock computer, provided you have the right calibration.

What is your fuel pressure at?

Do you have a scan tool?

Do you have the stock chip piggybacked to the Ultimate?

Sorry just saw your email about this Jack... i'm a bit lax with email sometimes.. miss a few one day... miss a couple another...

There has to be a simple solution to this... please get back to me on the questions I just posted. Did you ever tell me what heads & cam you are using?

I think we found our culprit.

Take a look at the Ultimate setup, do you see those header pins off the green board? Why do you think those are there? For looks??

You must have the stock chip piggybacked onto the Ultimate hardware. You'll see the notch on the green circuit board of the Ultimate corresponds to the memcal's (stock blue chip) design, so as to prevent you from putting it in the other way.

I'm working on taking some detailed pictures of this, but my camera isn't working well for closeups.

Cha-Ching! Can I have a dumb-ass point please?. Gene Talber of GAST mentioned something about piggy backing them but I dont recall seeing any mention of it in the installation paperwork that came with the chip. Perhaps I overlooked it. Thanx, bro.

While you are at it, go ahead and replace the plugs. Usually after fouling them out a couple of times, you will have carbon deposits that wont burn off and will cause misfiring...
