That's a good point also! We need to pass underhood visual inspection.

The turbo does not fall under visual inspection. Just like the IC doesn't as long as there is no blow-off valve (visible).

Not sure about that one.

If thats true,,,then why would a direct replcaement turbo upgrade for my Jetta,state not legal for polution controlled vehicles. Off road use only.

I know the smog techs most likely would not know the difference,but if I showed them I installed an upgraded turbo that states for non polution controlled vehicles (off road use only) they might have a problem w/that,,,,even though the turbos look the same.

Same goes for upgrading to better flowing intercooler pipes from stock,Neuspeed states,they are not C.A.R.B. approved.,does it make it produce more smog,,,,no but still not legal.:2cents:

Not true.
If there are any provisions or fittings for SMOG devices on your stock IC pipes & you switch to aftermarket IC pipes that do not have the provisions, then yes they would not pass.

Just been working on upgrading my TDO6H-20G turbo.
I plan on installing a 60-1 Garrett compressor wheel.
Prices for parts are as follow.
60-1 wheel $80.00 shipped to US
TDO6 rebuild kit $70.00 Shipped.
Piece of three inch 3x 3 billet stock $8.00

I have done machineing myself to the center/cartridge section to fit the 60-1 wheel.
Now I am in the process of machineing the compressor wheel to fit onto the cartridge.
The only thing I cannot machine is the compressor cover/housing to fit the new 60-1 wheel.
So I am sending that work out.$100.00
Plus $100.00 for balance & assemble.(rough estimate)

It is a hassle to do this type of work,but if you are into stock appearing turbo,this is the way to go.
I will post pics when I get a chance to.
These turbos are really easy to work on!!!

The turbo works great! Still have not gone to a track yet,but it pulls some good top end power!:tup:
I bought the parts from vendors on Ebay.


Mike Lee says he can do the machine work in house,you might want to ask him????

Thanks,it runs good. I went to the track last year, ran a 12.08 @ 108 running really lean.

It just needs a couple items installed & then time for an actual tune,not ghetto style.:rotf:

If you ever want to sell or make another 1 let me know. All of the turbo shops near me said that they could not do what you did. They will put a 57 wheel in, but said you are stuck with the inlet size of a 20 g.

I'll let you know if I ever have some spare time,most likely not for a while.

If you, or have a friend that has a lathe, you can do most of the work yourself.

Waller says he makes them also, but not sure if he has time to make one either.

I have 36 Lb Ford blue top injectors now,because I was running out of injector as I turned up the boost up to 23 PSI.

Next ,,I need a electronic boost contoller,just to be more repeatable & more accurate on controlling the boost,then finish up my Alky control install,,,then,,get a real tune done by Mike,or if Dig or Tooky,or others wants to tune my Sy.
Maybe I can run 11's then?,,,,Not sure,,,,but if I have looser converter,,,,fo-sho.
I do not have any tunning equipment ,other than a LM1.
