I've been waiting for the auto to go for awhile and it didn't let me down.Transfer case went out last year so the cost benefit is toss them along with the front axle and front suspension.
Installed ZF-S6 trans from my deceased 1990 Corvette. FREE
Found pedals and clutch master/slave/reservoir at the junkyard.$125
Made my own trans mount and off set shift handle.FREE
Custom driveshaft $220
Used trans fund for RPM coil over suspension and installed a couple months ago.
Anyone want to guess how much weight I've saved???
I'll post the answer when it's done and I scale it.Should be by the weekend I hope.
Value is something that comes up when these posts are read and after the engine build I knew I'd never be right-side up especially after the rear diff and transfer case went south when introduced to a medium build.
More reliable, better mileage, more camshaft freedom, the fun factor of a manual, uniqueness and stills gets my kids to school.PRICELESS to me.....

You better buy some good stickies ;)

i find it funny that people always say something like that. has ANYONE seen a rwd s10 run at the track? sbc, supercharged sbc, NOS sbc, trubo? they hook and cook.

awd is awsome. thats what makes a syty a syty. but rwd s10s DO run.........im going back to my cran/vodkas.

6 speed turbo truck sounds pretty cool. low cost build too? very nice.

At the track is one thing but a syty can get a bit squirly on the street. Remember that when it starts spooling it hits hard. At least in my truck. I find it a cool project and it certainly will be lighter. Nice for highway rolls.

Well since i have been quoted it will quote too.

Why yes i have seen 600 hp s-10's run 11's and the occasional high ten. They are always tubed to hell and can usually tuck past the fender. However, they normally don't have cladding and have some sort of 4 link or ladder bars.

I am sorry that my statement offends you, but am i not correct? I wanna see him run 10's on 215's. He can run them all around if he wishes. Wait one minute. Unless he is Alex with his awd ty, i dont think its happening. Some 10" slicks might help but not really what i would call something that just shits and gets. Yeah, our awd helps but unless there is serious suspension and tire mods, he is still spinning.

How about a 9.86 on stock rear leafs, with some home made bars.
If you know what you're doing you can get a 2WD S10 to hook

.

YES I have seen plenty of Fast s10's.

However, I ran my Typhoon at Nats last year.

2wd 14.3@97
AWD 13.5@99

Same truck, Same day. Only difference was propshaft install. I have 275';s all around, so I will agree with the guy above, better get sticky tires.

Agreed, track will go to hell if you just disct the front. Prop shaft. And awd is the sh#$t on the street. But maybe I'm byass because my s10 is rwd.

Yeah they hook at the track because of the traction stuff they put down. You don't get that option on the street. Neat to see something outside the box for a tranny.I'm actually surprised that more people haven't stated it's no a sy/ty unless it's awd.

6-speed RWD all the way. It may not hook up the best at the track, but its fun as hell on the street....then again im kind of biased

Re: 6speed,RWD...almost there!!!!!

i like the idea for sure, but even my stock Ty would go sideways flooring it at 40mph on 2wd. i wouldn't even wanna know what my modded trucks will do.

Re: 6speed,RWD...almost there!!!!!

At the track is one thing but a syty can get a bit squirly on the street. Remember that when it starts spooling it hits hard.

In my experience this is very true.
I actually had a sy with no front shaft and a 383 s10 that I dyno'd and drove back to back. If you laid the dyno graphs over each other you would easily see the difference. The afr headed single plane nitrous fed 383 had more peak hp and torque but was much easier to hook and drive. The sy only had a turbo, exhaust and dfi but would blow the tires off at 50mph with no problem. The torque in a sy/ty comes in low and fast while the sbc truck built speed and torque in a more linear manor. This is also why a 700r4 can have a pretty stout sbc in front of it and live and a relatively mild turbo motor will start eating hard parts.
Both trucks had stock suspension, though the sbc truck did have a 9". You could load the converter and launch the sbc truck no problem on the street. If it started to spin too much you could pedal it and get back in it no problem and stay in it through the shifts. The syclone was a pain in the ass to launch. If you rolled out from an idle it would hit boost and just blow the tires off. If you tried to pedal it you had to get out of it enough to get out of boost and as soon as you got back on it it hit boost and blew the tires off again. If you did manage to get to the top of fist gear as soon as you hit second it would totally blow the tires off again and try to bring the rear around. Adding a manual trans to the situation would only make the problem worse in my opinion as well as other draw backs with the powerband of a 4.3 turbo.
I think it could be made to work though. Get the chassis sorted out as much as possible and use a very aggressive boost control program. I did this to a couple of turbo front drive cars and it made them much easier to drive and launch. Pull most of the boost out down low and bring it in as fast as the tires can handle it and it will behave much like a n/a engine.
