700R4 No Overdrive

Just a thought...could my tranny be not shifting into OD because of an electrical problem? Would there be an electric link some where from or to the Trans. that I could look for??? I know it is a custom built 700 R4@ custom 9/11 torque Convertor. Thanks...Paul

Did it have OD before? Was it rebuilt then didnt work?

I drove it into city last week, all is fine.....Coming home hours later it wouldn't shift to OD. Had hood open to add Methanol, and look things over in the time I was in the city. Didn't do anything else that I can remember. Paul

No Overdrive in a 700 is most likey burnt band, damaged servo, burnt 3-4's, misadjusted TV cable or a stuck TV valve if it is shifting late and hard. Not much else unfortunately.

If he had a burnt band wouldn't he lose 2nd too?

yes he would. if you have 2nd then you can still save the trans. you haven't damaged anything yet. you should check the VB for a stuck 3-4 shift valve and or a stuck 4th gear servo.

if all the gears were harsh shifting and wrong timing I'd say governor but you didnt mention that. pull the pan and air check the servo, if it checks then pull the VB and clean it up real good.

Not necessarily. I've seen a few where you would have 2nd, then when it was time for 4th, it would go in, but you give it any throttle and it would fall out of fourth and the driver would think it was the converter locking and unlocking. He's running meth on it. I'd pull it and at least have the clutches and band replaced along with the gaskets/seals and clean everything up.
