Re: 9 sec Bowtie build

I've been gatherin parts for almost 5 years, it's not easy or cheap to pull off one of these builds as many of you know just in the short block there is $6200 worth of part (Bowtie block $2000, Crank $2000, Oliver rods $1000 and Diamond piston $1200). Yes I know it was my own decision to do a V6 bc there is doubt u can build a whole Lsx for what's just in the short block of a V6. But these truck were built V6 and I could never see putting anything else in a sy or ty.

Alot of my friends have asked me how I can deal with it sitting in the garage, well the answer is you have a picture in ur head of what you want it to be. If you chose not to take and short cuts and do everything how u see it in ur head then it will take a little while. My goal is to make a 9 sec pass and get this truck in a magazine.

Alot of people have asked about the wheels, they are CCW Classics it took me countless months of looking to find a set for the right price, I always loved Hoovers HRE wheels and knew I wanted something like it. I did the zr1 wheels for a little while but they are the norm now more then stock wheels. I was going to buy the super stockers from Sport machines but the price was just a little high for me. Granted the CCW Wheels are pricey I got them for $1200 bucks and just have to rub my fingerprints away sanding and polishing them to like new condition. I'm actually working on the last wheel restoring as we speak and hope to be done by the weekend. Here is a link to check on the wheels

So now here is my question to you guys. Should I chrome/ polish everything under the hood (manifold upper and lower, valve covers, tb, Wilson elbow) or should I get everything sent out to the powder coaters and do it all FLAT BLACK?

Re: 9 sec Bowtie build

I would say powdercoated flat black. After having a bunch of polished stuff i hate the upkeep of it. I am currently getting rid of all the under-hood polished stuff to save me some time of stoopid polishing every time i wash the truck or want to take it to the show or track.

Harom do u think flat black will dull everything down? Bc we have a black engine bay? Or would some kind of gloss color be better

Re: 9 sec Bowtie build

powdercoat clear or the closest gray you can get to the uncoated part. flat black makes everything disappear.

I would say anything but polished bare aluminum...any kind of powdercoating or painted surface is good. Sure makes it nice to hose down the motor and not worry about polishing water spots out or dulling oxidizing aluminum.

Re: 9 sec Bowtie build

I polished all my aluminum parst including the tubing, then did a clear powder coating over them. Makes it easy to clean and still has a clean aluminum look. You lose a little luster with the clear powder coat but its still has a nice shine.

Yeah def do that. I have done chrome before on all the parts which is actually cheaper then sending them all out for polishing. I know everyone say chrome doesnt hold up well under heat but this truck does get drive alot and doesn't usually get dirty to warrant a wash.

I got in on the group buy for the rear diff cover and got them to do this also. Only have pics the guys sent me but it looks amazing. They did a great job, had to get engraved before sending it off to the polishers. Now the question is should I do the writing in red????

Re: 9 sec Bowtie build

I have heard nothing but good things about coated pistons. Very cool. Literally and figuratively.

Re: 9 sec Bowtie build

All Hot Parts i would Jet Hot 2000 inside and out, that shit cooled down in like 10-15 minutes to the touch. Lets the metal cool quickly after heating up.

I like Powder Coat clear or as close to original Colors.

Jet Hot Sterling is really nice and doesn't need the polishing like aluminum.

Picked up my Pontiac intake from Stef's Oil Pans after they welded in all the fuel injector bungs

Stef's is also building me an oil pan for the truck. Which should be done in a week.

And while I know it's not an AMS1000 I scored a brand new in the box Innovative MSBC-1 for almost nothing.
