Hello, Name is Dorian. Just purchased 91 syclone #257. Rebuilding the motor as we speak. Any tips would be helpful. Thanks.

Re: 91 Syclone

If your looking for a cost effective way to have a running motor in your Sy with some additional performance, look into a putting in a late model Vortec motor. If you looking to rebuild a motor, use forged rods (Eagles) and pistons (TRW, SRP, JE or Weisco). I wouldn't do a stock rebuild.

Hi, thank you. I have plans for an engine rebuild later in the future to the point where throwing money into it is pointless. I have to say I'm having way to much fun tearing this beast down!

Where do you live?
Tear down is fun, and depending how you do it, can make putting things back together real "fun."

Like throw it all in the dumpster so that you don't have to deal with it anymore "fun"

California, took the turbo off yesterday. :D Has alittle play in it. The garrett intercooler dryed out years ago. :squint: Things are looking good for the most part.

speaking of which, I looked in my intercooler the other day and noticed it is pretty dry as well. I know this is probably a dumb question, but what if any mixture do you put in there and how much?

thanks

56/44 mixture distilled water/coolant. Some people have a certain brand name coolant they put in, can't remember it. I have all data and some original books with all specs and settings for the sy. If anyone needs any info pm me. :)

Re: 91 Syclone

Have some pictures if people are intrested. I'm suspecting the detonation was caused from the previous gasket installed. Somebody please chime in, this doesn't look normal to me.

The side thats covered had the size of a needle hole in the gasket, comparing it to the new gasket.
