92 grn/gy color ?'s

ok, I've got a 92 green/grey, my question is on the grill. Am I supposed to have a totally green grill or grey inserts like the sy's? I'm currently searching the sportmachines site for pics but I cant tell on some if they are original or not.

update, I found 2 other grn/gry's on the site and they seem to both have soild green grill's. I think thats what I'm going with if I don't hear anything.

Its supposed to be argent.

I've read somewhere, location escapes me... that only the green/gray Ty's have a solid colored grill. Which mine "was" all green, but since my step dad put his trailer hitch through mine it will be repainted w/ gray accents.

Mines all green as well, I was throwing the Idea around about the Grey but i havent seen any pics of it done yet.

Just as a note, 92 and 93 grills were different in terms of paint. I am pretty sure all 92 grills were gray/agrent like the syclone, but most 93 were body color.

You'd be surprised at what people don't know. Most of us on the board stopped looking for the V8 supercharged Grand National engine long ago, but the little details slip by easier.

will do, it's at the paint shop now along with the entire front clip. BTW I only found 2 92 grn/gry's on the sportmachines site and both had solid green grill's like mine.( I now know it was wrong)

ok, 1 more stupid ?. what should the background color for the typhoon decals (and the GMC On the rear gate)? I think I remember dave saying it should match the glovebox door decal which in my case is grey? Is this right bc my ty decals are gold(I'm guessing they are wrong too).

Yeop, silver/grey decals and glove box emblem on 92's, gold on 93's

mine is box'y def not a 93.

They made 92' grn/gry's but were kinda rare if thats even a good term, my guess is they were made at the tail end of the 92's and were run into 93's at the same time as the 93's were built, I dunno. I know there are far less 92 grn/gry's as there are 93's. somebody with more knowledge of the #'s of colors should answer that ?. maybe opie, marty, dave, ?

The Aspen Tys in '92 had a paint problems, and as a result, all the Typhoons that were slated to be Aspen after a certain production number (somewhere around 1000) ended up a different colour. It was either Bright Teal or Forest Green, but I can't remember exactly which.

Edit: Research leads me to believe that Aspen Blue was replaced with Forest Green because I'm finding both Aspen and Teal in low VIN numbers, but I've only seen Forest Green in higher VINs for '92.

Thanks Jimmy. That's the page I couldn't find. My '92 is #1635 maybe the high number replacement for Aspen Blues theory is right.

As for rare....... maybe. I did a search sometime ago. I found very few Green/Gray Ty's, I've lost the numbers but it was under 50 for 92 and 93 together.

OMG I didn't even know that page still worked! I even forgot about it. :rotf:

I based what I posted there on both info from the old syty.org mailing list and from a couple '92 Forests that I've seen, although neither was an original owner Ty. However, that's probably the info on the page I'd stand behind the least. If Merk says they were grey, they were most likely grey. I personally like the different color grille. (I painted the one on my old pearl white/grey a pearl black.) I say paint it whatever color you want - if someone says it's wrong, make them prove it.
