So I found a local Typhoon that needs some work. Its 1992 #23xx offered for sale by the original owner. Comes with all manuals, service manuals, window sticker, etc.
It isnt running and has been sitting in the Texas heat for 2 years now. Paint is gone, dash is crashed (have a spare dash), right rear cladding cracked, back bumper pushed in a bit (have a nice bumper on my parst Ty), motor is new but who knows the story (have a running drivetrain in my parts Ty)....

Give me some opinions please. Im not sure if i shoudl pick it up and fix it... Im thinking It could be fixed fairly easily.

Here are the details from the owner....

A new engine (not rebuilt) was installed a little over 2 years ago and has approximately 100 miles. The turbo was rebuilt at the same time the new engine was installed. New tires were put on at the same time and have approximately 100 miles wear.

The vehicle went in for routine maintenance to a certified repair shop. One of the mechanics that worked at the shop took the vehicle out and blew the engine because he ran it without oil. The shop did however, replace the engine with a new stock GMC Typhoon engine and had the turbo rebuilt. Now the problem is that it doesn't run. Numerous attempts have been made to find a mechanic that knows something about Typhoons, but frankly, I haven't the time nor inclination to continue pursuing this. I am hoping that it finds a good home and that someone who knows the value of what this vehicle is can bring it back to life as it has many great years left.

The body is in excellent condition as is the interior of the vehicle. It has been smoked in. It is and has been only in Texas so I don't believe you will find any rust here. Anybody that knows about Typhoons, knows that the paint jobs were poor and therefore it does need paint (mainly on the hood and roof above windshield where it has peeled). The right rear cladding is cracked all other cladding (ground effects) good. Nothing has been modified all original equipment and it has never been raced.

The following parts have been replaced, exhaust system, alternator, serpentine belt, driver door power window motor, heater core and it does have tinted windows. This is all in addition to the new engine and rebuilt turbo.

I really have no idea why it doesn't run, so I can't say whether it's an easy fix or not. It could be something simple, but then again, I don't know which is why I am offering it for such a low amount. It doesn't mean it isn't a great vehicle because it is and it gave me many years of enjoyment. The vehicle does come with the original owners and service manuals.

Well before I say, I want to get some people's opinions what they think its worth. Its not pennys. Im sure some of you guys remember this one from a few months back. $7500 buy it now and $6500 reserve. He wouldnt let it sell for Just under $5k

But now I have a parts truck that has what this truck needs to run, new tires and wheels, and I have a spare dash.

Anyway, so what does it look like it is work to you guys. Remember, its a rust free Texas truck!

I would be nice to save it, but not for 5K. I wouldn't pay anything over 4K for it because of the amount of money you will have to drop for new parts. :2cents:

But the guy selling that TY doesn't know that ;) Show some prices of replacement parts/cladding to him and talk him down to at least 4K.

why would you show him prices? Just because of that he'll start asking for more.

Shruggs.. what's the status?

If you pick that one up then I might be interested in the non running drive train for my Naked Typhoon. Wire harness ect.

2 years ago there were no factory replacement syty engines available. If a 'new' engine went in, it was probably a regular 4.3 long block. Could explain why it is no longer running.

Ok but what if the truck was running?

I have a running typhoon with a totalled body... and this is a non running Ty with a good body (needs paint)

Seeing that you have a donor vehicle, I would buy it and sell the unused parts from this ty and make some money back. I'd pay $4500- $5000 for it. Just my 2 cents

Re: 92 Ty: Need help guys... Should I buy it???

if youre seriously thinking about getting it, i wouldnt let him know i have another one that you can just swap engines with. make it seem as if youre gonna have to figure out whats wrong with it, and you dont know how much its gonna cost to fix, it needs a paint job, and yada yada yada. then he would more like likely come down on the price. if he knows you got the wrecked one and can just swap out engines, he will have something on you and think youre really in need of his truck, and be less likely to come off of it any cheaper. which personally i dont think $5k is to awful bad, but if you could get it for less that really wouldnt be bad. theres also a slim chance its something very simple to fix that has just been looked over and you would have 2 drivetrains. :2cents:

:stupid: How many miles are on the body?

I would figure how you think its worth. Subtract cost of paint, replacement motor and the value your time to come up with a price.
