92 Ty with 80K

I saw the other add asking if it was a good deal and im pretty sure I know a little more what is going on here. Ive been reading up and watching the boards here for quite some time. I found one for $11K with around 80K miles on it. The guy that has it has owned it since 30K and has reciepts. He hasnt driven it much the past few years and has always garaged in winter? Motor is very clean and the leather has very few creases and looks to be kept well. Does this sound like a typhoon that I can trust somewhat? I know they all have there days but with the records and from what I have seen I feel ok about this one.

I found another Ty with the same mileage and price, but this one has a slight knock? Is this something to totally stay away from? Also the guy had it without the front propshaft for probably 2-3,000 miles, but now has it back in? Again something that should worry me? I think I could get him to go down on this one a little, but I dont have "great engine skills", would I be ok with the one on top? This one obviously needs a little work.

Dont really know what I even asked here, just dont want to buy my first Typhoon and have it completely go to crap on me the first day. Would it be very advisable to have someone with sy/ty experience check it out before I even go look at it? Thanks for any info/help on this one. Cody

The second one is probably on it's way out, and I'd stay away from it unless you can afford to build a motor within the next month. The first one might be good, but be sure to have it checked with datamaster first.

Re: 92 Ty with 80K

the second one claims that its just because it has crappy gas in it and the gas was low, but when he took off and floored it it seemed to almost backfire (overboost maybe, i dont know forsure what overboosting does or sounds like.

Stick with #1 if he has had it that long then you should get a truck that was kept up. Ty or not would you ever spend 11 large on something with a knock? I searched for long time before I found one I had to buy. If you can't get the 1st one continue to look and you'll find what you are looking for. Be patient and you'll be happy.

thanks, ya i think things are falling into play pretty good so hopefully it works out to get #1 , chances are I will get to drive number 2 possibly this weekend if the guy is back, Ive rode it in and its fast as hell, but to this day ive never driven one...yet. Hopefully by driving his I can get way more than enough motovation and drive and get the other one

Try and hook up with Cliffey83 (aka Chris I believe) as he has had a Ty for awhile. He's in Lincoln but might be able to help you out. I'd help but I haven't gotten around to getting a Ty yet, so someone who knows more about SyTy performance first hand would be your best bet. From the sounds of it, go with the first one. Best of luck and I hope we get another SyTy'er in Nebraska.

if the guy knows that it has bad gas in it and is still going WOT, he is clearly an idiot.

FWIW, I have heard the "bad gas" excuse countless times from dealers and private sellers. It seems every time a car that I look at isn't running right, they say it's probably just got bad gas in it. Funny how this bad gas only seems to get in cars that are for sale. I've never had any in a car that I owned.

ill do my best so i can be the next NE syty owner, are there many??
Barely any at all. Cliffey83 is the only one who stops by the boards any more but last I read he's moving to Arizona anyways. There's a decent number of SyTys here in Omaha but none of the owners give a rats ass about them. I guess I'll have to quit making excuses here shortly and pony up the cash to finally get one.
