Re: 92 Typhoon Cladding color semi or gloss

That is why I was asking. The paint on mine is original with a clean car fax also. I am trying to get some info put together to give him for diminished value. Can't wait to see what the grille looks like knowing they are getting an aftermarket grille. I did however tell the body shop that any thing that came off to save it for me to pick up when I picked up the Ty.

Would not recommend aftermarket grille. Have yet to see one that looks like OEM. They vary on the look at the logo area, where the GMC bolts up. I bought a used one from a member just to keep the original look.

Make sure you keep telling them this. When I went to get my Z06 after it got wrecked I had told them plenty of times to save the factory "titanium" exhaust for me and when I went to get the car they had to dig it out of the trash.

Agreed aftermarket grills do not look right in the lettering area. It sticks out like a sore thumb.

I have never seen raw unpainted Syclone cladding from the factory, it has a crappy thin paint on it.

I know the grille is going to look bad just don't know how bad. Got a funny feeling that they are going to order the wrong center cap as well since the chrome Firebird wheels I put on it didnt have center caps so I used my silver ones on them.

I still disagree. My cladding is definately painted and I am 99.999% sure its original. I have some NOS cladding that is raw and unpainted, its different. I have never seen Hoover Syclone in person but many other Syclone's have cladding that looks like that. Sometimes that happens from the application of too many cleaning products and the sun baking them out.

I am still wondering if the body shop is actually going to paint the grille black with the center and headlight bezels dark grey.

I would actively work with body shop on the expectations of your truck rather than wait until they are done hope hey did the work to your expectations.

Exterior Trim - Lower Body Molding Discoloration

GMC NUMBER: 92-10-41
GROUP: 10 Body
DATE: January 1992
CORPORATE
NUMBER: 161704
SUBJECT: LOWER BODY MOLDING (CLADDING) DISCOLORATION (REFINISH PROCEDURE)
MODELS: 1991-1992 SYCLONE, TYPHOON, AND SONOMA GT
Some 1991-1992 Syclone, 1992 Typhoon, and 1992 Sonoma GT vehicles may experience a discoloration or fading appearance on black lower body molding (cladding package).
These conditions can occur from contaminants or ultraviolet degradation.
To correct this condition, it is necessary to refinish the molding. In order to obtain a good color match of individual pieces, the entire molding (cladding package) should be removed and refinished.
SERVICE PROCEDURE:
NOTICE: The products listed below are manufactured by PPG. Follow all label directions for safety, application, and mixing instructions.
1. Remove visible rivets from the molding (cladding package), including front and rear bumpers, using a drill and 15/64" drill bit. Remove molding.
2. Remove the door molding decal. Refer to section 2B "DECAL REPLACEMENT" in the appropriate GMC Truck Light Truck S/T Models Service Manual (X-9129 or X-9229) for decal replacement instructions.
3. On Sonoma GT models only, remove the existing tape from the RH and LH quarter panel behind the rear wheel opening area and corresponding moldings using DX-330 or equivalent Grease and Wax Remover solvent. (New tape will be needed to provide maximum adhesion.)
4. Wash each molding piece with a mixture of MILD car wash soap and water.
5. Wipe molding with DX-330 or equivalent Grease and Wax Remover solvent.
6. Finish sand any damaged area with 400 grit paper.
7. Apply one coat of DP-90 or equivalent Black Epoxy Primer.
Important
If additional filling is required, apply two coats of K-36 or equivalent Acrylic Urethane Primer surfacer. Finish sand the K-36 with 400 grit and reapply one coat of DP-90 or equivalent Black Epoxy Primer.
8. Topcoat with two to three coats of DDL-9862 or equivalent low gloss black paint. Allow to dry 16 hours or force dry for 40 minutes at 140 degrees F before putting into service.
9. For Sonoma GT only, cut two pieces of two-sided tape, approximately 1/2" x 15-1/2" x 0.045". Install a new piece of tape on the RH and LH quarter panel. Position in the same location as tape previously removed in Step 3.
10. Reinstall all molding using rivets (P/N 15661614 and/or P/N 3828472 or equivalent). Rivet quantities vary depending on vehicle model.
11. For Syclone and Typhoon only, install new door decals (P/N 15637832-Syclone or P/N 15661660-Typhoon)(Refer to Step 2 for installation instructions).
