I have auto crossed in my colbalt ss and its alot of fun, and I've been working twords my 93 ty being capible of the same thing. One thing I was thinking about was how bad the seats were gonna hold me in when I'm doing hard corners, does anyone have any experiance with these seats and how bad they do?

A harness and some skateboard tape will hold you in LOL. J/K. But seriously recaro seat arent badly priced and look nice

Truckless. For now.
Re: 93 seats-autox worthy?

I would say the seats won't hold you at all. '92 seats would be better if you were staying more "stock-ish" but definitely not '93s for serious auto crossing. If you are serious, I'd look into aftermarket options.

Fat-man's are NOT for auto-crossing. No side support, and yer ass just slides around on the leather. Cloth Sy seats would be much better, imo.

First autocrossed my Syclone in 2004.....when I had '93 Ty seats in it. They sucked. That day is what motivated me to put the stock seats back in.

I've autocrossed my '93 and the seats we're the least of my worries! If you're going to do it occasionally don't worry about it and leave them in, but if you're going to build it for auto-x I'd definately address the seats for sure.............

I would imagine after your drive to Nats in 2006 though, your seats are now form fitted to your body. :rotf:

I wouldn't swap out seats for a few events a year.....in a populated region, you won't be competitive in FS or ESP anyways. And if competition isn't what you're there for, then I def. wouldn't worry about the seats. Just know that they have little lateral support and be prepared if you take a tight left at some decent speed to brace yourself to keep from crushing the belt buckle into the console lid.

If competition is on your mind, then I'd grab a different vehicle first off......but if not, grab some easy to swap out race seats (or find some really nice ones to permanently replace the Ty seats).

I have 93's in my 92 ty and used it for open road racing. Difference is the 5 pt restraints though, once they are buckled up your not going anywhere. I actually have to remember to close the door first as I can't even reach it once the belts are on.

I have always said 92' seat you sit IN, 93's you sit ON.

I loved auto-xing my ty, but after the races I said the same thing......i'd love to do this again but if I got serious i'd have to buy a purpose built car.

If you're sliding on the leather go to home depot and buy a roll of kitchen cupboard liner (you can even get it in black) and put it on the seat before you get in. It obviously won't help with the lateral support but it completely eliminates the sliding around issue. I've been using it on the leather blazer seats in my truck for last few auto-X seasons and it works well.

You can also put a twist into your seat belt before you latch it to stop it from loosening up. Some guys set their belt like this with the seat back a bit and then pull it forward to snug it up even more - it works better with power seats.

Re: 93 seats-autox worthy?

well, i took it out this sunday and did pretty well, the seats didn't seem to have much effect on how I felt in the truck. I launched out of the hole and the belts would lock, after that, while keeping both hands on the wheel I felt pretty good. pushed competitive times too, I was surprised.
