A/C Problems

Ok well I don't own a Sy/Ty, but I do have a 1994 Olds Bravada. Pretty much the same basic layout. I've looked around but you guys are the smartest I have found. Here is my issue, NO AC! It was 93f today and I couldnt stand to be in the car, ontop of that my Heater Core is leaking so I couldn't breathe. However I can fix the Heater Core. Below is a review of whats going on in the AC department.

1.) System is R12 no conversion yet.
2.) The AC clutch clicks on and off, seems to be at a normal rate.
3.) Accumulator DOES NOT get cold.
4.) When AC is on in car ambient NOT HOT nor COLD air blows through, just ambient temp air.

So any ideas what the problem is? From what I gather it is probably not leaking nor empty since the AC clutch pulley works. I heard when it gets low or empty that will turn off to prevent a burn out. Please help I can't sit in the car this hot, nor can I cart my 2 yearold daughter around in it when it is this hot. PLEASE HELP! THANKS!

I would take it by an AC shop and have it checked. Look for holes in your condensor that may have allowed freon to vent out.

You are right about low coolant. If the system is low on freon it will not come on. There is a small bit of compressor oil in the coolant to keep everything lubed properly.

I had to do the condenser/accumulator on my 240 after a rock vented my condenser for me :( I just got new parts and installed them myself. Skipped the flushing of the system since anything that comes out of the compressor, which is only source of contamination gets caught in the condesner. Took it to a shop and had it charged up and it blows incredibly cold.

I would take it by a shop and they can tell you what's going on inside those lines.

Good luck!
