A day at the track with Dig.

I spent all day Saturday with Dig at the local track for their test &
tune day. I've been lucky to have him spend a lot of time with me
helping work on my TY, and Saturday paid off with runs of 12.78 &
12.83. Dig also had his Sy running low 12's & high 11's. It was a great
day at the track, and I thank Dig for all of his hard work. If anybody
has the chance to get help from him, count youself very lucky, he is
the man!

Shoot, I thought racing was this weekend.. I was planning on educating the GM boys up in Sabin. Did Dig run the welds? How'd it hook?

It is... Sat-Sun was all-day test-n-tune, this weekend is the season
opener. Friday nite racing as well, April 30th.

I'm on-call this weekend, which kinda wrecks my fun. I gorked a plug
or two, so I need to get those replaced. Also, probably a couple gallons
of xylene... 114 octane just ain't cuttin' it any more.

Before Welds/Hoosiers: (60 fts)

2.05
1.79

After Welds/Hoosiers:

1.660
1.665
1.71

I didn't get much time to mess with the pressures, which I think would
have improved things further. Also, I'm thinkin' that Nolan's front susp.
limiters will help it out a bunch. I'm thinking it'll crack 1.59s.

They seem to like a really good squirrley burnout, such that you either
end up running past the staging beams or just barely make 'em. The
cleaner they are, the better.

My MPH went away... I was running 110-111 MPH all day, should be in
the 112-114 range.

Even so, I managed to pull a pretty good run:

60: 1.660
330: 4.784
1/8: 7.476@90.7
990: 9.75
1/4: 11.835@111

There is a better one in it, once I get those 2-year-old plugs out of
it, and get some octane in it so I can run 20-22 degrees of timing
again.

The open dump on the stock DP is weird... like a really loud fire hose.

Later,

Thanks Paul. It's really cool to see a 110k miler go down the track that
fast, especially with all the golf shoes in the back. :)

Paul's runs ended up being a case study in how much a good launch
can make or break you. After running 13.2s all morning, he iced it
down really good, and managed to get 2500 RPM out of the stock
converter. Dropped .5 just like that.

Nice run and 60's.

A good launch and the stickys always eat MPH, but the trap speed doesn't win the race, don't ask me how I know. :(

Funny thing is, I gained 1 MPH with the stickies.
Never did better than 110 MPH on the stock radials.

I have a feeling it has to do with the plugs, and the gas quality...

Nice times, Paul. How much more are you hoping to get out of it, e.t. wise? Kind of makes me wish I had gone that route with my 110k mile Ty... But I guess someone needs to put Buster in his place

Hopefully Sunni, little Magnus, and myself will be able to make it up there and do some racing this year. If nothing else, Magnus and Felix can do some bench racing, eh Dig?

That's about it, my goal was to get in to the 12's. I'm happy with
these times, so I don't think I'll try to push it any more.

You must have some smarts, the rest of us are draining our bank accounts trying to satisfy the speed bug. If I look back, I think I had more fun running 12's then I did 11's and trying for 10's has been a complete nightmare, but I can't wait to run a 9 because then it'll all be better, not!

Good luck, you know a bought a cobra, right? J/K Man. Maybe you should make a little road trip this weekend up to Sabinville.

Famous last words of a man with a bank account, equidy, and friends. Soon all you'll have is a beer, 10 bucks, and a mangled, scared fist to hold them in.

Cool. Looks like the new track in Sabin is being put to good use. Nice times Paul and Dig. I'd love to come up there and run too but you know how syclones are. I've finally got mine all back togather with a new turbo but it needs to be re-tuned of course. I think Larson is the smart one of the bunch, notice he's the only one w/o a Sy/Ty.

Much truth in that statement.

Really, about all that I would recommend for Paul's setup would be a
converter and maybe an alky system to get the MATs down... he had
nearly 200 degree temps on the big end. After that, I'd leave it alone.

There's something nice about having a 12-second stock-appearing SUV
that you don't have to mess around with a lot. Stability is good.

I'm hopping this 20g will keep me satisfied as far as speed goes. Only thing I can think of is getting a better turbo of equivilant capabilities. A small bb turbo would be cool.

the idea of mid-low 12's would make me jump around the room in the yesteryears when I was only imagining what it'd be like to launch one.

Id rather be able to drive it then make it faster... Gotta always keep that in mind.

Dig,
You know I must have read this post tem times before I realized that you and elk4slayer were from Minnesota.Cool, I guess I did not realize that there was so many Minn-e-sotan's on the board!

Where is the track at you guys are using? Is it right in Sabin? I would like to hook up with you guys some time!

Actually it would be fun to hook up with all of the people in the area! I will post an idea in the Northern Gatherings for summer.....

Summer, heck!

I'm thinking May 14... the second Friday night race. It's a riot to see the
look on some of these guys' faces. I'd go tonight, but it's kinda windy and
cold.

There's quite a few of us, and a couple guys on the ND side of the river as well. (Paul's an ND resident)

Track is right outside of town in Sabin, about 3-4 miles from my house.
Pit-bike range into town. :) The track has been completely re-done in the
last 3 years, new track, staging lanes/roads, bathrooms, grandstands,
etc. Only downside is the grass hasn't grown back from the construction,
so it gets a bit muddy when it rains.

About 250 miles up I-94 from where you're at.

The summer thing sounds good, also. :)
