A Few Sy/Ty Questions

Re: A Few Sy/Ty Questions

Eric at TurboTweak doesn't burn 2 bar chips and his tunes are really good.. the truck probably has other issues or lacking fueling upgrades

I mean, I would be doin a twin turbo upgrade n coilover swaps anytime soon..

I wouldnt have the $ for the Sy/Ty FMIC kit, but would do a diff cheaper setup

Why would you bother with a mess of a twin turbo setup? especially on a budget it'll turn out to be back yard bullshit which is waste of time and energy. Just search on here and different combos that work and go with a larger turbo/dp, injectors, fuel pump and good tune and save for the trans rebuild(s)

Re: A Few Sy/Ty Questions

other than RPM and Mccoy, there isn't a retail air-to-air kit. If you see some ricer kit on ebay, it wont fit, its just a universal kit.

Jus an intercooler from ebay that I used on my SVO style
93 T3 turbo mustang, I would have tubes bent up for it..

Why wouldn't you just fix the factory lower IC if your on a budget? A used one should be cheaper than even an eBay a2a.

Re: A Few Sy/Ty Questions

The last lower IC I bought cost me ~ $50. It was 8 years ago though, so I am not sure what the current market is. Even if they are $100 why do you want to make things difficult? I spent more than 100 for clamps and couplers; the throttle body uses an oval 4" which make it little more difficult as well.

IMO -Boosting with the check engine light flashing is asking for engine carnage. A check engine light is not good, and a blinking one is worse.

SYTY101 indicates to do a tuneup and get everything sorted before modding.

How many miles are on the truck, and is the fuel pump original?

Do you know a guy named Bubba?

Re: A Few Sy/Ty Questions

Ok, so I looked at that 93 Ty again, lil deeper in spots.
It has a 3" "Pit Bull" exhaust on it, a fuel gauge on the
fuel line, owner said it has a aftermarket adjustable chip
in it (I cant remember). Drivetrain n Interior are in great
shape but the body is beat up. 3 pieces of the claddin
are broke but owner has 3 replacement pieces, light rust.

Is "Pit Bull" a good name for 3" exhaust? What should
the Fuel gauge on the fuel line read when runnin in park?

Ty has 3" catback, CAI, Adjustable Chip, 18+? psi

ATR PitBull exhaust hasn't been made in years but it's a good setup.
Stock fuel pressure is 42 or 43lbs so with the vac line on subtract roughly 10 lbs and that's what you should see on the fuel gauge with the truck idling vac line connected to afpr.

If the chip's a 2bar map (stock map is 2 bar) then 18+ psi is kind of risky depending on octane and tune of said mystery adjustable chip.

If the guy's unsure of the chip and the truck doesn't have a wb02 or datalogged then you could be concerned that the engine is questionable? if so ask if he could get a compression test done? Just tossing that out there but with the tune being in question, missing cladding and probably body and paint work needed you could use all that as a bargaining tool and get the price down

Re: A Few Sy/Ty Questions

Owner told me the name of the aftermarket adjustable chip
but I (Sy-10) cant remember what he said was the name/maker

He has a folder of recent work done to it, tune up n fuel pump are
newer like 8000 miles on them. work was done 2 years or so ago.

Owner has replacement cladding, jus need to be painted n installed

So I want to see 32+ on the fuel gauge

If I'm not mistaken (and I frequently am), you should be able to put it in the run position, and see the fuel pressure of 43lbs on the gauge (as long as it's a mechanical gauge). The fuel pump will still activate for a few seconds. Once it's running, it should register lower (as Ryan mentioned). You can at that point, pull and plug the vac line going to the FPR (on the back side of the intake), and the FP should go back to 43.

Ok cool, thank you for the run but not on tip. I just wanted to be 100% sure about the #

Re: A Few Sy/Ty Questions

Anything over stock boost on a 2bar is playing roulette IMO. The computer cant "see" what the actual boost level is and adjust fueling and timing accordingly. Doing it right would consist of a 3bar and your choice of tune, along with a fuel pump upgrade (stock replacement is insufficient). Porting the w/g will also provide better boost control, especially if the cat has been removed.

Re: A Few Sy/Ty Questions

18 psi on a stock motor/turbo, is more boost than most SyTy's will tolerate on pump gas. 8000 miles on a tune up may already need another tuneup. 8000 mile on a stock truck and chip is usually fine, but may not be a modified truck running higher boost and a more aggressive tune.

Re: A Few Sy/Ty Questions

Grey connector on pass side under the two relays - jumper that to the +12v supply to engage the fuel pump.

Key on/run but no IGN should power up your gauges. Check FP.

Over 14.7 psi of boost on a 2 bar MAP without alky is asking for trouble.

HTH.
