That's no surveyor, that's a cop with a radar and a walkie talkie. Once he clocks the speeders he radios to the "Wolf Pack" motorcycle troopers that are pulling people over.

Full story about "Operation Hardhat" can be found at the Miami Herald

I find that illegal and must violate civil rights somehow. I'll be damned if someone is gonna blow the whistle on me and have a cop come get me based on another individuals testimony. Rember- ALWAYS ask to see the radar and refute responsibility for speeding without concrete evidence. Cops should do their own fucking job and not rely on a 2nd party. This won't be the last of me, this is WRONG.

So is it okay to speed in a construction zone? I mean morally? I've always view speeding as a regulatory infration not a moral infraction in most cases...the exceptions being of course school zones...neighborhoods and most construction sites that weren't the result of pork barrel legislation. Soo...now that I have played devil's advocate and stirred the pot up...

I do no not condone speeding in construction zones. I don't condone speeding anywhere else like school zones or anything else. I'm just saying, that "construction worker" or whatever the hell he is should jump in a squad and make the arrest himself. It's a good way to catch speeders in construction zones, but it DOES NOT prevent speeders like a state trooper car chillin in the median. Now, THAT is an effective way to protect the construction workers, not make the state richer. It's all about money, and screwing over the public by creating stupid law enforcement principles like this. Don't get me wrong, if you're stupid enough to speed in a construction zone, you deserve the ticket. But they should keep it a level playing field.

I don't exactly think this is 100% legal.

Then again it is a money making scheme for the pigs that don't know how to spend their budgets.
Maybe a new bomb sniffing dog, how bout finding some murderers kidnappers and rapists, stop some real crimes, instead of a victimless crime. Hell, go arrest a priest who fondles children...

Pigs like this are the real thieves. taking the money out of the pockets of their own communities. and they wonder why I hang up on them when they call my house looking for donations.

It's not OK to speed per say, but there are way more important things I'd like to see my tax dollars doing than buying $5500 laser toys and paying 10+ officers double time to sit out there robbing and looting the public.

It's just sad they are hesitant to go serve a warrant, but they all volunteer to go write tickets. must be the donut bonuses for most tickets written.
Let's give bonuses for bringing in some real criminals by the hair.

And on construction zones... I now drive 10+ miles through one on the way home from work, it is a line of over 2000 orange barrels, for One freakin overpass. Literally they have blocked off 2 of the 4 lanes of a MAJOR highway out of the city 24 hours a day 7 days a week until they fix this one overpass. Funny thing is the past 3 days while I sit there counting barrels I have not seen one crew, not one person, not one piece of equipment being used. No wonder everyone hates the construction crews...
Move the freakin barrels if you don't need to cause a 2 hour long traffic jam!!!

No matter what, we'll ALWAYS find a way to outsmart them. I argued for 10 minutes in traffic court because I was written a ticket for a GMC Blazer. When I brought in proof that a GMC Typhoon and a Chevrolet blazer are BOTH owned in my household, and that pretty much set my foundation and the rest was all gravy. I totally agree with the post about spending money on worthwhile causes. I understand tickets have to be issued, otherwise we'd all drive like ricers :) . But, the money isn't spent where it should be, and it's a shame. I don't even donate to charity becasue of this reason.

I agree, I seem a bit hot on the issue. And I shouldn't use any profanity, so I won't anymore. But man, I'd love to fight an off duty cop (just once). I got too many stories about shady police officers. Its nothing like traffic either. Like when my stepdad beat the hell out of my mom, and the cops came and were screamin at my mom like it was her fault, then FORCED me, my sis, and mom out of the house to find our own place to stay for the night while he was allowed to stay at the house. One time I got my ass kicked by 3 seniors in high school and left unconcious behind a garage and they police let them off. Yeah, I'm a tad bitter about law enforcemnt, or should I say lack of law enforcement.

What would you guys say to inviting some "real live" officers in here to discuss the thought process?p

You don't think that will turn into a one sided conversation, do you>?

You are just playing devil's advocate because you can drive the autobahn, even if its not in the Sy... that or being a post whore again

I drove the Sy on the Autobahn once...

naw...it's just that I get tired (not in this topic becuase it has the potential to evolve) of the ignorant posters out there that spout ignorant retoric about cops all being crooked and all cops working for county money.

Last ticket I got I deserved because some yahoo came flying up on my ass (dark @ 6am) and was hanging (not too close) but closer than I'd like off of my back bumper. So I gunned it and out drove the cop up and around the off-ramp (80mph in a 30mph ramp) tires a squealing and all) and I would have been gone had I chosen to...so he gave me the orgininal ticket he was "investigating" a 75 in 55 on the interstate.

Re: A heads up for all you F.A.S.T. guys...

I think speeding in a construction zone is a major hazard. In Michigan now there is a case where a lady hit a worker and faces $7,500 fine and up to 15 yrs. , it hit all major news outlets here and they hadn't even received anything back about her bloodwork (no pun intended).

The article states "They lurk in dump trucks, peek from behind road graders and pretend to be surveyors." and "No matter the stealth and tricks troopers use, he said, there will always be people speeding through construction zones and on highways." leading me to believe this will be used in non-construction zones as well.

When you talk about $$$ made from this I think the line "Road-work areas provide a ''target-rich environment'' for catching speeders, troopers say" I like the term RICH being used.

Next great idea? Send hot female cops to stand on the side of the expressways dressed as Daisy Duke sticking their thumb out to hitch a ride, then ticket the cars that slowdown to look for driving under the speed limit.

now thats F-ed up....

i have a few friends who are cops... i'll look into if this is a truely legal act and can hold up in court...

for all i know, its a real construction person impersonating a police officer... badge or no badge, that doesnt fly with me....

not that i drive over the limit in construction zones... but dammit, if you've been to FL lately, the whole damn state is under permanent construction.
