ABS light question

Hello all,

Just bought my 1st Sy. Very excited.

It seems the ABS light is on and wont go off. Dont think its the ABS hydraluic unit because it has a breand new reman from Autozone thats only a coupl months old.

Pulled the codes and the 4WAL manual is telling me it is a short in the ABS warning lamp circut.

Anyone know the easy way of figureing out where the short may be? Electrical is not my strong suit and i want to avoid ripping apart the dash if at all possible.

Any info is appreciated.

thanks,

Paul

Re: ABS light question

i'd junk the abs and put a bypass in. i might be biased though i cracked a rotar and my abs almost killed me before i realized the rotar was cracked

Re: ABS light question

Dave,

Thanks for the good info. My truck is a 1991 Syclone. Here is what i have found:

Last night i traced the (+) and (-) power whires from the 2 plug on the Module to the battery and found the (+) was heavily corroded from what looks like battery acid under the battery tray. so I ran a new section of wire from from the factory wire to the (+) on the battery and double checked the integrity of the (-) wire and it seems fine.

Drove the truck around to see if the light would go off. it didnt.

So i just pulled the codes using a OTC Genisys with system 3.0. My fault codes are 86, 65 and 66. I am using an original GM RWAL/4WAL manual to look up the codes.

It says 65 and 66 are caused by "poor power and ground at 2 way conector" but I fixed that with the new section of wire. It has a big note at the bottom that states if codes 65 and/or 66 is present with another code, fix the other code first before investigating 65 & 66. So that leaves code 86.

I am going out now to try your 15MPH trick and report back shortly.

Thank you again for all the great help. never could have done this on my own and cant seem to find a good mechanic here in Los Angeles that is trustworthy.

thanks,

Paul

Re: ABS light question

Dave,

OK. so i tried to clear the codes via the paper clip method and the Genisys scan tool and they will not clear. Multiple times with each. the scan tool says it clears then i tell it to scan for any DTCs and the same ones pop right up. thats confusing me.

I have checked the voltage at the 2 plug connector and its flowing around 12 volts. the ground seems good.

I have even disconnected the battery in hopes the code will clear and it still wont.

So my only guess is there realy is a short in the ABS warning light? does that sound correct?

I tried to do your trick with the brake pedal and going 15 mph but it didnt work. but then again the ABS light was on the whole time so i know u said that the light should be off. tried it anyway.

Now I am totally stumped.

Thank you

Paul
