why own one of these things if you don't at least try a boost launch? without the awd the truck is useless under 35mph just like any buick grand national or like without sticky dr's etc

I remember when i was looking to buy a ty the owner let me test drive it while he rode shotgun. I asked him if i could launch it to test the acceleration he said sure. When I put the car in neutral and revved it to depress the brake for all its worth he had no idea what i was doing. I put in drive got the boost going and let it rip. The owner had never felt anything like it and had to seriously reconsider why he was selling it in the first place.

Doing a boost launch in a Syclone was the first time I ever let off of any accelerator because I couldn't believe what was happenning.

the day i got my sy, i went by my parents house so they could check it out, and my mom said "its a black truck just like the other one you had, whats so special that you HAD to get this one?" then i take her for a ride and launch at the stop sign down the street... her arms swung out trying to grab on to anything to brace herself as she yelled "what the HELL did you buy?!?!?!" :rotf:

thats the difference between a boost launch and flooring it off the line

so is a boost launch when you hold the brake with the left and the gas on the right--then release the brake? Or is it when you rev it up in neutral and then drop the transmission into drive?

yea, hold the brake and gas in order to build "boost" before you "launch."

you def dont want to do the latter, will result in the classic syty jackstand stance.

come to think of it i've never really did a good boost launch in mine. but i did break two stock front driveshafts. i did one at about 1 psi and chirped all four tires though.

Boost launches get even more interesting when you have more than factory HP/torque and/or the suspension is not dialed in yet.

it was kinda funny when I test drove my first ty too with Scott G, it was raining then too and he knew what was gonna happen. I could see the pucker effect going on in the pass seat since I hadn't paid for the truck yet.

I only had to clean myself up once and that was during a launch last year when the steering shaft came off. Thinking it was just spinning I stayed in it for a bit, got worried when the steering wheel kept spinning around and around and around while the truck went left toward a curb.

Learned to never do a launch around traffic ever again.

Yup. Watch the edge of the hood as the front end lifts up and twists the truck, and stuff will start rattling. The C&D review described it pretty well. If you spin the tires just focus on keeping it straight, mine likes to slide to the left.

So does mine, such a weird feeling in a huge vehicle like this....

I'm so used to launching at 20+ lbs in my VR4 though so doing it in the truck left tons to be desired.

Yep, 'cause the VR4 tranny is the only one that makes a 700R4 look bulletproof. :rotf:
