i just got a quote from a engine assambler..
600 to get the crank cut, nitrated, and balanced.
****ing another 800 to have it blueprinted again.
(without the parts)


and the company that builded the engine, says it's bad luck?
or lack of oilpressure, which should be my fault??!?!

It is unfortunate a company would not stand behind something like that.

Granted these are High horsepower motors and a XX mile warranty can't be given, but surely anybody expects it to run, have oil pressure, and work.

Not going to point fingers, but let me atleast try to set the record straight since many people already know "the x company" he is refering to is RPM.

Thing is we did stand behind the first engine.. Customer purchased a shortblock and sent a complete worn out motor back to us claiming low oil pressure. We repaired/remachined and completely assembled the entire motor (intake to oil pan) with all new gaskets, oil pump, bearings, etc eventhough the entire motor had been tampered with, and the customer only purchased a shortblock.. You wouldnt expect any other company to fix for example a computer processor that was taken apart and sent back as damaged would you? We like to think of the syty community as a group of perfect people, but trust me it's not. I am in no way implying this customer malicioulsy tampered with his engine and expected a free rebuild, but i have seen it happen before in this industry. The customer seemed upfront from the beginning about this potential problem, which was appreciated.

We gave the customer the benefit of the doubt, understanding his situation and figured he only tampered with the engine to avoid having to ship it all the way to the states. SO basically we fixed everything and alittle more, then shipped it back free of charge via air freight(close to $1000 alone just for shipping)

Engine #2 was delivered in excellent condition with perfect oil pressure. We typically suggest starting the vehicle with no water, and as it is warming up/running add water. This is vital on these builds, b/c it allows all the gaskets, and metals to expand and seal up. For those of you with copper head gaskets, you may understand and know this alittle better. The customer decided to pressurize the coolant system cold at who knows what psi, which may or may not have had a direct result on a leaky main stud. Instead of trying to use a block sealer or coolant system additive to remedy the situation the customer again pulls the oil pan and tampered with the engine, removing hardware on the center two main caps. It seems rather coincidental that these are the only caps that were messed with and only those bearings show wear. All the other main/rod bearings look perfect. Keep in mind this sudden loss of oil pressure is several oil changes later and not an immediate problem which was discovered after delivery.

We have been in contact with the customer the entire time, and done everything we can to help. I think our track records for engines and in general speak for itself. I do not farm my engines out to whatever engine builder in my area is slow, and all our machine work is done in house. Unfortunately i can not answer calls, work on cars, fabricate and build engines all by myself with only two hands. I have one guy who only builds my engines and he has been in the business for over 30 years. He has set records from Bonneville, to NHRA drag racing and currently has several records in both arenas.

You all as a community are free to judge as you wish. The story has a little bit more to it, but at some point someone has to step up on behalf of my company before people start thinking there is something we are hiding just because a single customer is frustrated. My opinions on this matter are pretty much finished so please dont expect me to get into a large public debate over this. I cant stop what is posted here, but unlike some of the past come and go vendors, I will be here to answer any questions or possible conserns if you would like to contact me privately.

can you have the block checked to see if the main bores are aligned right? something is not right.

The missing plug and as far as the worn out engine that was shipped back to your place..

we had alot of contact about the low oilpressure at idle, your builder claimed that the low oilpressure coulnd''t cause a problem, and i shouldn't worry about it.
everytime i did an oil change (100 miles) i saw some metal schrapings on the magnetic drainplug.
i take the engine out (cause i really had the feeling this wasn't good), and found out the bearings were all damaged,and my brand new rebuilded turbo was shot also cause of the shit that went thru the engine, and you told me it didn't look good, after the pics i have sent you
so I started to dig into the engine to see what was wrong, the plug under the rearmain cap, was missing, which will cause a pressure drop of 20PSI, and the oil doesn't get to the filter.

we ship engine back, you were verry helpfull and told me you will make things right.

i receive the enigne back, i install the lower intake, pressurize the system to 12PSI, and i found a leak.
at first i thought it was the sealing problem of the lowerintake.
(after all this bad luck, i will rather do some extra checking)
i block of the waterports to see if it wasn't something else, pressurize the system again, and still had a leak.
remove oilpan and see water coming from the 4bolt converted bolts.
i call RPM, and ask if they ever had this problem before.
Mike says no, and they normally warm up the engine without cooling liquid.
so it will seal itself.
i take out the converted bolts and aply the same stuff we use on the headbolts.
problem solved.
(i just wanted to be safe and didn't want to do another swap in the future, and there are some other engine builders that apply that stuff also)

install engine, prime engine, look at gauge to see if i have pressure, unscrew the filter to see if the system is pumping oil into it.

ready to go.

use 20W50 gently drive the engine and i seem to finally be able to enjoy my engine.
after about 600 miles i though it was time to use the 10W30..

so the oil gets warm, and i again see a oilpressure of 18PSI at idle.

drive home, take oil out, and see a golden glow in the oil that is in the filter.
Damn, bearing problem.
Take engine out, and see the 2 mains being completly ruined, and spun 1-2 degree.

i Email mike, about this.
Asked me if it was detonating, and to takepics of the rod bearings.
everything looked okay, except the 2 mains.
he told me not to use 10W30 after i had this problem, and once again, there are alot of HP engines still using 10W30

Sure, every story has 2 sides.
still i have nu ****ing clue what was the cause of it.

it's easy to say it was somthing i have done wrong with the engine, but i had to keep digging into this engine to fix al these problem.

the torque wrench was just calibrated, and i only unsrew the 4 converted bolts, so the bearing couldn't have spun.
even with the 4 bolt's in there, i really doubt it could have spun the bearing.

i haven't seen weird things while i changed the oil,
but after the 10W30 (20 miles in it), and after opening up the oilpan, i see complete bearing material spread over the oilpan.

i know you hate this as much as i do.
So i ask you if you can balance me a new crank , with the weight stamped on my rods.
about a week ago
still haven't heard back from you........and i geuss it will stay that way.

it will be verry stupid of me to try to screw a company that is 1XXXX miles away for a few bucks..

i got a workshop of my own also, and i think if a customer of mine did something like that i will do exactly the same.
but if it's a shop we do work for, and they find problems, it becomes something else...
you might expect that he knows what he is doing, and he isn't trying to rip you of.

still i don't know what the problem was that caused the main bearings to spin.
I really think that RPM makes some nice products, and alot of engines that are operating like they should.
not trying to scare people not to buy From RPM.
cause all the other things i have bought there are doing there things like they should.
i just had one problem after another with my build, bad luck?? maybe.....
heck, i even think it's bad luck on both sides...
but, i'am prolly 6k less richer, and still don't have an engine that runs..

Race Gas, tuning, and no false knock. i knocked out 4 motors samething over and over, the 2 middle mains hammered out.
