Air deflector question

Re: Air deflector question

I might pay $150 for one if I could convince myself, or be convinced by others, that there is a benefit to having one. We still don't know how it works, or IF it works, or what it is supposed to accomplish.

well I'd say it works in that it deflects air. As far as it being beneficial? Maybe in protecting your oil pan from some errant rock dings/chips...but this was another reason for my stopping caring about producing the thing - there was seemingly no benefit aside from the "ooh big piece of aluminum" factor.

If people will buy them i'd be willing to make a couple. But i doubt anyone has gone slower, incurred any damage, or lost a car show award from not having an air deflector installed. This definitely isn't a piece i'd want to stock or have a bunch left on my shelf in hopes someone would buy them.

My truck is missing the one that would of been on there. I just wondered... How many others are removed or missing. Its not like a part on another 4x4 that we can readily find?

We all know the trucks are limited and the parts are harder to find. This is a part that I do not expect to find. I have a front air to air on my syclone so the plastic deflector would not attach to my front intercooler anyway.

My thought on mine was maybe some one removed it at a dealer ship when working or the guy I bought my truck off of removed it or simply never had it as well. When I seen a member asking if one was avail on a truck being parted it dawned on me mine is MIA as well.

GM is notoriously cheap. They wouldn't spend a dollar a car for a plastic shield that would prevent Vega front fenders from rusting out

Is there a benefit to have one? Well if they could have saved a nickle a truck, it sure as **** wouldn't have been on there.

I can't figure out how's it's supposed to work. Unless it's to re-direct radiator fan flow forward through the CCHE at low or stopped vehicle speeds.

That first quote is from 4 years ago.

I had a Syclone up on the lift yesterday with the engine running. I noticed there is a LOT of airflow from the fan that comes out under the truck, ahead of the front differential tube. It occurred to me that this "escape" would be totally blocked by the stock air deflector. I remembered the discussion from awhile back as to what the purpose of the deflector IS. I happened to have one in my stash, and with one hand I held it up in position, and with the other felt for air flow in front of the lower IC. Definitely. It was a cool day, and the air from the radiator was much warmer. I could feel the difference with and without the deflector in place.

So my guess as to the deflector's purpose years ago was correct. It is there to establish airflow through the lower IC at low, or no, road speeds.
