Air Intake/ Battery Relocate. What do you think?

I spent Saturday moving my battery to the drivers side of the engine compartment and installing a K&N filter.

I removed the battery mounting plate from pass side and, after slight cutting, was able to install it into drivers side. Though hard to see in the pics, it actually fit very well. That left the pass side open for air filter. So I made a custom bracket and fitted a K&N filter.

It looks dirty because im planning on a winter project of completely removing the engine and painting the engine compartment, after I finish all the mods.

So what do you think???

Looks good!

..but I probably would have done the engine compartment makeover/cleaning BEFORE I did all of that work:roll:

Can't wait to see it detailed and finished. Nice work:tup:

Edit: Is there any way you can run the cables underneath to clean it up even more? Just and idea since you plan on ripping everything out anyway.

Interesting placement. I had to do a double take as it looks like your POS wire was running into your coolant tube in the 2nd pic (grin). How will you now perform an oil filter change quickly?

The battery is currently held in by bungie, but im making a quick release latch type mechanism, you will simply release the battery, lift out leaving cables attached, and remove filter. The plate has been cut to allow easy access to filter. I will remove battery and take some pics so you can see.

Looks tight, but now you have also added the weight of the battery to left side of the vehicle, in addition to the drivers weight, might have to crank up on the left torsion bar (or loosen the right side) to offset...

I did something similar, but had deleted the ABS, so had a place to relocate the oil filter to. Been running that way for over 3 years now, and have no complaints.

I'd put it in the bed. Plus oil change will still be a pain in the ass.

just cut a huge cocke bottle in half, and use that as a catch can for the filter and remaining oil

Yup, works like a charm. Plus, remove 2 nuts and the filter mount is loose so can position over catch bottle. Done half a dozen oil/filter changes, works fine. Mine's a Ty, so don't really want the battery in the cabin with me.

Good alternative: Buy a smaller battery and mounted it under the air intake, similiar to ATR setup.
Little too crowded on that side....
