Air to Air

Hard to design a GOOD air/air that doesn't require some cutting.

CAS - I think this setup would work fine if there was some follow-through by Dequick. Unfortunately he won't make a set of pipes that will fit anything, or look presentable. It can be done without electric fans, requiring only one hole in the driver's side fenderwell.

Brian,
I'd go for a system like this in an instant. I really don't even care if a hole needs to be cut in each fenderwell, just NOT though the rad support area. I want to retain the stock clutch fan/shroud also. But, does anything need to be cut/trimmed to fit that dual core air2air in front of the radiator?

As far as the KB unit goes, sure there are better designs these days, but who else was making an air2air for Sy/Ty's back in '93 when I purchased mine? I always considered it a great upgrade from stock which required very little effort to install and really cleaned up the engine compartment. It would be nice to have a larger core though.

You guys think there would be any way to build some type of bracket that would attach to the existing 4 bolt holes for the CCHE, and then encase an air2air core? Maybe a way to stuff a larger/longer core under the bumper? Just thinking out loud.

Question was already answered above... ;) Problem is if you build a larger bracket similar to the stock bracket/housing for the cche then you'll have either clearance issues with the sway bar & bumper support possibly the ground (if you make the cche taller vertically) ....... or you'll have cleareance issues with the frame on either side (only an inch or two more space horizontally).... :(

I think thats Mike building an a/a intercooler is a great idea. I really like the dual a/a that cas makes, Mike what would it take to make sure I would have no cooling problems with a setup like that, I had planned on a griffin rad, stewart water pump or electric, and a 140 thermostat, would that be a good setup. I also agree with Brian that cutting will be required to have a nice setup and I really see no reason not to, truck won't be stock so its not like the resale value will plumit anymore from cutting some holes.

Serious about performance
Watch out on the 140*F thermostat... most chips I've seen do not lock the torque converter clutch unless the coolant is at least 150*F.

A chip who said I would be running a chip at that time :p . Seriously though I only plan on doing those things when I have built it up 8) and have FAST so I don't think it will be a problem.

I traded my stock intercooler for a KB unit the other day, since then I've blown 1 rubber elbow in half, blew a weld off the core, and hit 180 degree mats in the 1/4 mile, real nice stuff!

I fixed the core and am planing on mounting it in front of the radiator, I figure the core is small enough that it'll leave some room for the radiator to cool properly, just a guess at this point.

Just an idea for guys without AC and looking for an intercooler before dequick's rots away in the mail, can't believe UPS is so damn slow.

180deg is very high, even for that setup.. Do you still have the lip on the bottom of the core? if not it makes a HUGE difference.

Lip broke off, the guy that had the intercooler before me abused it, I'll have a big scoop welded on and see if that works. Might still have to move the core, but I guess I won't know until I try.

See Ya

Yea............180 is real high............I have not been to the track with my new KB a2a yet. But, on the highway with long 18-20 PSI blasts I have not seen MAT temps over 130-135 ever. This is in Colorado with low humidity and 85-95 degree days. I have also not blown off any hoses since the first day of adjustments, broken welds, or anything like that. I KNOW that going a2a was the best thing I have done to date with my Ty. Yea.....the compressor needs to be re-clocked to eliminate that goofy 90 degree bend coming off the turbo.......but for the benefits, less headaches (jacking around with switches, pumps, hoses, fluid levels etc) and the clean engine compartment you can't beat it. I like the KB unit and will probably never reach its 600HP limits. It bolts right in and is ready to roll. Gotta love it. I can provide picts if someone is interested. Just IM or e-mail me. :D

Over the years I've had the rubber elbows blow off a couple times, but that's about the only issue I've ever had with the KB I/C. I also believe that problem is cured as I replaced the KB supplied hose clamps w/ the heavy T-Bolt clamps. Like 4bux a piece I think? These Mutha's WORK!! :D

I second that on the T-bolt clamps Mike...........anything intake/intercooler should have them....bottom line.

update

OK well ATR has made me eat some crow! I had my crow well done because I like'em crispy. NO really I got my headers 3 days after I called and they told me another 4 weeks or so.

AIR TO AIR UPDATE

I odered the CAS dual core air to air intercooler 2 days ago. I was told two weeks on delivery. Im doing dual electric fans also, I talked to a local radiator shop about a bigger badder radiator also. SO now....... I have this

done in the past few months:

stage 3 vortecs
PTE 52 and downpipe
ATR headers
Cam & roller rockers, lifters
CAS dual core Air to Air
ATR 3" back
converter and tranny work
ported and matched upper and lower intake
McCoy air filter kit.
Ultimate, adj FPREG, pump, 3bar

In the works.....by christmas
New block, probably a stroker
speed pro
70 series turbo

I shootin for 12.0's

In the spring I hope to do full coil overs with willwood disc

Good Luck. Mine was sent out 4 weeks ago, UPS must have lost it. Only problem I have with Dequick is he's a liar, period.
