Alternator nut

How do you get the alternator nut off the alternator? I want to do a refurb/upgrade on it as well as replace the pulley with the March one I have.

I tried sticking an allen key in to stop the fan turning but it bent the blades. The tension on the belt on the truck is insufficient as well.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Guess I won't be doing that this weekend then - cheers, thought that might have been the case.

your supposed to be able to use some type of wrench on it that is open end and hold back the pulley with an allen key. an impact works very well though.

Re: Alternator nut

Just put on a good thick leather glove and hold the fan part real tight and use an impact. Works like a charm. That is what I did when I re-clocked my powermaster to fit like stock.....:2cents:

Yup, worked at a started/alternator shop... Hold the fan and hit the nut with an impact gun. Comes right off. Or do as ken suggested and bring it to an auto parts store. I've had them pull and re-install power steering pulleys and stuff for me.
