Can the # be read while still on the truck? If so, where?
I just looked at mine and cannot find a number.
The only reason I know what model it is, is because I bought it & I still have the box it came in.
I'm not sure how you would tell what it is if you don't have the box.:dunno:

Now why in the hell would a mfg. not put a resistoron on their product if they know it needs one? Or....at the very least tell the customers with a tag or instruction sheet with the unit, it makes no sense to me? If this is realy the case, it just makes my feelings and many many bad experiences with PM units just that much worse :2cents: .

I deal with these issues all the time. Design flaw and no CLCA (closed loop corrective action) to correct the problem or to notify customers of the change.

I bet ya, that if you call them & tell them what alt. you have or that it burned up then they'll tell you that the resistor needs to be installed.

After 14 or so returns and warranty claims they never mentioned it, but I beat them to the punch. I just stopped selling their product to my customers. Too many black eyes.

Re: Alternator upgrade?

Did a search and came across this thread. I called a local alternator guy here in town and he needs more specifics on exactly what I need.

I am looking for a 140 amp that will bolt right in to the Ty without having to reclock or modify the bracket.

Does anybody have a specific part # that I can give him and get it ordered?

Re: Alternator upgrade?

Thanks, I think i'll go that route.

I got a email reply from him below...

"Hello Zach, I have sold a lot of 140 amp alternators for Typhoons. The alternator I recommend is listed on ebay, item # 300086474591. This is a 100% brand new alternator that we install a HD regulator, a HD rectifier, and a 140 amp stator for the extra output. Also at 140 amps there is no need to upgrade the wiring harness, just bolt it right on. Any other questions let me know. You can buy and pay thru paypal or call toll free 1-877-734-3381 and pay with a CC. Thanks, GENE

Re: Alternator upgrade?

I was looking at doing the CS-144 thing also since it would be cool to score an $8 alternator at the bone yard and be done with it, but I went this direction instead.

www.motorcityreman.com

Not a terrible price, 160 amps and is a direct bolt in. I bought one for my V6 Camaro and one for the Sy. The Camaro has had zero issues, but I got a bad rear bearing in the alt for the Sy, but a local rebuilder fixed that for $25. No problems since.

Just make sure you get the small pulley, the output really falls off at idle if you don't.

I also took the opportunity to upgrade my Big 3 to 4 gauge wire. Made a world of difference.
