An idea for the 2006 Nationals

I would think that the 2006 Nationals would provide a wonderful opportunity for the following:
"A Picture Gathering of the Top Ten Syclone - Typhooon Builds", all in one place.

Heres the deal, Not everyone can race. But "What if" (at a minimum) attending
Nationals Members would be willing to tow/trailer Top Builder`s Vehicles to the 2006
Nationals for Display/Show. The vehicle need not be raced, nor totally completed,
(or its owner on site for that matter).

I for one, would love to take pictures (and get ideas) from the best of the best.
Can you imagine the Magazine Spread that could be shot with the if.....
Jason
Robert
Mike Callahan
Mike Lee
Tom Ferrick
Tom Dowd
John Gerber`s - Ty & 2wd Pro Street Ty
Hoover
John Waller`s
Nolan/Tony
John Freye

Les/Mark
Ed Hess
Marty`s SoGT
Dean. or others...

were available for pictures! Remember, the Nationals is a multi-event
offering; Friends meeting, Eating-Drinking, Show-n-Shine, Racing,

Vendor Equipment Offering, Video Documentation, Idea sharing,
and personal networking. If Robert can come from Sweden,
(which undoubtably be a 1st/last showing of his vehicle in the states)
could we not get a showing of some of these top 10 builds (for viewing)?

This solves issues with 1) A conflict of taking time off for some owners,
2) Not having completed/tested for Racing, 3) Money, and resources for
some to transport vehicles (as volunteer representatives in there own region would

transport/return unharmed), 4) Having a vehicle (like John Gerbers Ty, or Martys
SoGT) in a partial state which doesnt allowing driving.

It also promotes Builders, Info Sharing/Ideas, Momentum for Car Magazines to show,
2006 Nationals Attendance, and Friendship-Among-SyTy Members.

Granted, it would be nice if everyone could race this year, but I`m sensing
Ed, Tom (Dowd, Ferrick), Jason, Hoovers, Mike/RPM and others can`t. For some,
viewing there vehicle might also be a way of promoting (there company) or selling
their vehicle.

Anyone else interested in this idea?

Re: An idea for the 2006 Nationals

The top 20 fastest timeslips from syty.net have been contacted regarding attendance as well as lots of high profile owners.

So far none of them are registered.
There needs to be an incentive for them to show up I guess.

I had entertained the offer of refunding registration to anyone who runs a 10 second pass at the Nats.
But with the tight operating budget I am afraid I would be making those refunds out of my own pockets and I am not willing to risk that type of investment.

You've got lots of great ideas Larry now how about some suggestions on how to get a fire lit under these guys' asses!

Mike Lee has drug his Ty to the Nats non-running before, not sure he would do it again.

You would think the vendors who have monster built "shop trucks" woudl be the first ones their to show off what they can do and impress the community with their dedication.

Nats needs to get back to the good ol days of just a bunch of truck guys hanging out and talking about their trials and tribulations.

Hope to see all the guys listed above at the Nats.
First round is on me!

Truckless. For now.
Re: An idea for the 2006 Nationals

It would be awesome to see even a few of those trucks at Nats. I've been lucky enough to see John Freye's truck in person (it was in my driveway  I love the smell of race gas in the afternoon). I'll be one of the lucky one's to see Robert's truck at Nats (I picked a good year to make my first one). But to know there's all these other wicked fast trucks out there I will never see in person just plain sucks.

I won't ever get a chance to drive out to California just to see Ghettosled or Tom Dowd's truck. I won't get a chance to see Tom Ferrick or Ed Hess's truck on the east coast. I know I'm not the only one who wants to see and be inspired by these trucks. To know they would all be at Nats every year... now that's a trip I can justify.

I know Vette guys, Porsche guys, Turbo Buick guys travel to the big events... why can't SyTy people do the same? Our trucks are every bit as special, if not more so. We should support them as such.

What do we need to do to get these trucks out of the garages and in the open?

Hey JS.. You going to the Nats?

Posted by:LoeRyder "First round is on me!" We are going to hold you to that :)

Despite the Sweede thread we are excited to go... Sounds like a good time! We'll be using a trailer to get down there since we'll race it and it's got a 7004R in it still that's stock.

Hopefully someone will know more information about the white Typhoon I picked up....

We'll be there.. hopefully the weather will be in our favor.. :)

I am sure enough people will have my parts on trucks there to see. Right now just enjoying life again, not doing nearly as much syty parts as I did at one time. Time to get my typhoon done so it can be at the nats next year.

Re: An idea for the 2006 Nationals

....<More on "Top Ten Syclone-Typhoon" Picture Gathering at 2006 Nationals" idea:

BACKGROUND:
Some of the older members will remember the Nationals at KC where GM brought
their vehicles (for Display); Rockford Racecraft, McCoy, and Howie Automotive
brought either vehicles, or equipment/booths for parts; Lectures were given, and
at night everyone gathered for small talk, street racing, vehicle maintenance, or just plain
drinking
icon_smile.gif
In other words, there were LOTS of things for every SyTy attendee -
meaning some wanted racing, or info on parts, or info from vendors, or socialing, or
street racing, or feedback on new ideas.

IDEA:
Okay...<fast forward to 2006 and reality>..
IF, by some strange black-hole/fate, WE (as in SyTy Members, and SyTy Regions)
could encourage "A One-Time-Picture" of the best Sy`s and Ty`s for 2006....
-for Magazines to come and publish an article on,
-for National and International Recognition (as being a Top Ten Build)
-for Owner and Vendor prestige, sale/value, bragging rights, and possible consumer merchandise followup, at
-NO or Very little expense to the owners/sponsors (factoring in Time/Lost wages)
or the embarrassment of not being unprepared or equipped for racing....
-JUST Maybe a DISPLAY of more vehicles could be assembled for 2006.

REASONING:
It would seem (altho a bit weird) that IF these Owners/Vendors post on this
board that they "care" about this group (either via ego, status, info-sharing, or pure consumer
salesmanship) and thus would/could be encouraged to participate in a group vehicle photo.
Also, if their SyTy "friends" could being putting peer pressure on these owners to
DISPLAY them (outta mothballs)....in whatever state of construction that they might
be in....maybe even volunteering to bring to the Nat`s themselves....everyone would
win.

OPPORTUNITY:
With Robert attending (from Sweden), we have a wonderful opportunity.
THE WORLDS FASTEST SY TY PICTURE GATHERING...
It wouldn`t discourage anyone who wanted to race, but rather encourage viewing
of trucks that aren`t prepared to race. It would boost attendance.
Trophies could be award for best suspension; innovation; design, paint, or whatever.

PLEA:
Maybe Ed could tell us, just "what would it take to have his vehicle DISPLAYED"
(since that doesnt involve physical activity with his knee, or racing in a foreign state/track).
Heck, it may not even cost him any money (if he has volunteers)...and he might
win a show trophy (or say $50 to $100 bucks).

So Ed, Tom F, Tom D, Jason, Dean, Marty, John G, Marlboro Owners, and all...
"What does it take to view your vehicle up close, and personal, at KC????"
No offense to any of the above individuals, or to those not named as having a great vehicle.

SUMMARY:
Every Magazine (GMHTP, Car Craft, Hot Rod, Sports Truck, etc) does a pic layout of
vehicles. This could be a natural invitation ....and incentive....for our community.
Thanks everyone, for allowing me to post this idea,...(just trying to help)...

My offer always stands!
If you bring a truck I will even say "the first FEW rounds are on me!"

In fact, I need a shopping list for the Swedes to make sure I have them covered.

Jeff, can you ask Robert and his crew what their beverage of choice is and I will have it on hand, providing it is available here in the states. (ie: no Absinth)
Otherwise its gonna be some fresh AB products straight from the brewery here in StL.
(Was just there yesterday for my B-Day)

I thinks its a little late to be try to organize this 2 weeks before the Nationals. I think in someways the members have been trying to get the top trucks to the track. Roberts Swedish Syclone has been talked about coming for months now. Badnewz and BullySyclone have talked about coming and it seems from the rumors that the Hoover truck will not be making the trip. 3 fast truck would be more than any other years, so that is an accomplishment in itself if it happens.

As for offering to towing someone top ten truck to the Nats, in theory it works. However, I would be nervous about sending my truck unattended. I imagine many other owners would feel the same. The other issue is gas, for the east coast guys to ship Ed's Sy or Tom's Ty would cost about another $600 in additional gas to wow plus it would be most likely be replacing someone else SyTy on the trailer.

I hate to keep saying the same thing over and over but there are some people that stand up and make things happen, others sit back and make up reasons it can't. I have never met Robert in person but have talked to him over the last several years. I made the offer to help him out should he ship his truck to US couple years ago. Finally it is happening.

Robert has shown for years, he is one to find solutions. He was first to run the 4l80e, first in 8's, and several other accomplishments.

Friday alone I spent ~$400 in gas and 1300 miles to go get his truck from Baltimore. We still have 8hr drive to KC, and the truck must go back to Baltimore to be sent home. Add another $400 gas bill and 1300 miles.

In total I will have driven about 4,500 miles to make this happen. That is after a 4,000 mile journey across the atlantic.

Does Robert sleep in a bed of $100 bills, nope. Do I have vacation time just laying around to burn, nope. But we are making it happen and finding solutions. Others could also if they WANTED.

In the end some people have more drive and motivation with these trucks than others. I am probably considered mentally unstable and need to be put in a hospital yesterday. But at the same time I am done hearing everybody elses excuses.

I also know what I say or anybody else says won't change the owners motivation. I can even respect someone staying at home due to issues, just don't come on here and complain about it.

Larry: As much as I agree and if I owned the top 10 trucks myself I would make it happen. In the end it will never happen.

I am shooting to make the 2007 Nationals (presuming my truck is done in time for them  ). If that happens, you'll only have 9 others to convince ;)

I would love to bring my truck to the Nats this year but it just isn't going to happen. Dave is working on it as much as he can and i am spending every free minute i have working on it. I have a commitment with Rad Rides that my truck be ready for paint by the beginning of October. If not then i have to wait another year for paint. I can't take the risk and miss this opportunity.

MY 07 schedule plans to be packed with shows and time off of work and my family to show the truck with a final show at Sema in 07. I am still trying to see if i can at least fly out for the weekend just to hang out.

Syborg... Depending on your budjet if you miss the date for Rad Rides I'd be able to paint your truck.
Full down draft paint booth with bake here. I use Sikkens products and House of Kolor.
Done many full show cars to Outlaw Street cars that run 6.80's at 200+
I can send you pic's of my work.
Be glad to help.
