Any old timers out there?

It has been a while since I have been here. Back in 1992 a guy named Todd and I started this little group that grew to eventually be this website. I was the first moderator of this group and I used to manually send everyone's messages out to the group. I am wondering if there is anyone from that original group still out there? Dig are you there? Larry Brown? Mary Klaus?

I am still the original owner of my Syclone. It is still all original and now has about 27K miles on it. I have thought about selling it numerous times of the past few years because I don't use it much. But, I just keep hanging on. I am going to have to replace the original Firestones soon though.

Anyone out there remember the old days with this group?

Thanks!

Merrill

How bout it?
Re: Any old timers out there?

Dig and Larry are still around. I joined the group in 1998. We use to use the message board with the email up until a few years ago. Now it is just easier to use the fourms.

Re: Any old timers out there?

Welcome back.

Todd, Dig, and Larry are still around. Todd sold his Typhoon though.

I joined the mailing list in 1995, I think. I did a lot of lurking at first. There was a wealth of information available. The mailing list still runs through syty.org. There isn't a lot of traffic, though. I think the list archives are also available there.

Re: Any old timers out there?

I joined the old email list in early 1996. There are still some old-timers around. Dig, Larry, Todd, Daron, Marty, Gary...a few more. I guess now days anybody that was on the old list would be an OG.

Re: Any old timers out there?

Hi Merrill - Good to hear from you. It has been a while. Marty is still around and finally got a Marlboro Sy. Loved the old days of watching the new guys discover the list. I've just been busy with work and don't post like I used to but the forum is fun to scan through when I do get a minute to spare.

Proud to be one of the "Old Guys" in the group!

I don't consider myself an OG being a member since just 98, but then again of those left around I have been here for awhile.

7 years go by fast.

Glad to see some of the founders show up.

Re: Any old timers out there?

Wow, this is an active group! Other forums I have used generally don't get a response to a post for several days.

It is great to hear from you all. I have got to do some browsing and see what has been going on in the Sy/Ty world. One of the reasons I came looking for this site again is I have an on-going feud with a guy who has a Dodge SRT-10 pickup over who has the quickest truck. I don't race my Sy, but I may have to just to shut this guy up. He has more HP, but I have AWD and my profile is a brick, while his is a brick sh*thouse. I gotta think the Sy is still the quickest truck.

Thanks for the responses!

Three women were bragging about their sexual lives :
1st wife: "My husband is like an elegant Buick Riviera; smooth and sophisticated."
2nd wife: "Mine is like the Plymouth Roadrunner musclecar; fast and powerful."
3rd wife:"Unfortunately, mine is like an old Syclone. Requires a lot of preparation
and has a 4 or 5 seconds start-stop time!

Howdy, Merrill
(and Mary, Marty, Chooey, & Todd):

You`ve got all the "areas" covered with your splendid array of vehicles dude!
icon_smile.gif

Claire & I are still around although I`ve given up any of the ole humor/dumb stuff (like above).
Most posts are cyclic or repetitive, and this newer medium is a bit more "testy"
personality-wise, but the trucks are faster now.

Take care ole friend...

Re: Any old timers out there?

Been around since 96/97 when the list started really taking off.

Times have changed Merrill.... the mailing list is pretty much dead, the age group got alot younger (or maybe im just older now?), and its all about cheap budget and big attitudes.

Chris Pearson officially left the scene back in 99 and I aquired the famed ChromeBoy Ty which sits now with 25k in the garage.

Ivan the Terrible disappeared after a personal war with Pearson in 99 as well.

Todd has stopped production on the Ultimate Chips.

Marty is working on his new project, a Twin Turbo Sonoma GT, "Syborg"

Merk still holds all the secrets to SyTy

Guy Lavy disappeared around 2000/01 and sold his truck long ago last I heard.

Sean Morris still lurks and owns 3-4 trucks, non which run... hes still heavily into Skylines and whatnot, left MotoRex after being screwed by them, now works with RB Motoring

The Dourtys are still around and have been coordinating the Nats the past few years

Brian Green went through a couple of trucks got them to run balls out fast and finally lost interest and got himself a girl and a Del Sol. He still lurks and puts his 2 cents in when needed.

Steve Gavic still lurks and joins in occasionally

Dabney... I havent seen Dabney since Nats 99, but I think he still lurks at events.

Time flies.....

Re: Any old timers out there?

Wow guys, thanks for all the updates. It is amazing how things have evolved.

Larry...I will always appreciate your sense of humor. The dinner and breakfast I spent with you and Claire will go down in my own personal history as the funnest and funniest I have ever had! Beware, you never know when I will trek to Colorado from Utah unexpectedly and land on your doorstep again.

Mary, it is good to know you are hanging in there. Does this group still meet in Tahoe the week of Hot August Nights? I made it to a couple of those and they were fun! It is the only time I ever saw a Marlboro Sy.

Back in the early 90s Todd and I had a hard time finding other people interested in Sy/Ty stuff. We would both browse the myriad of newsgroups and post invites. We slowly grew, but had about 100 people before the group outgrew my bandwidth. Todd if you are still out there, I still have a picture of your Ty, along with a mysterious green one from Colorado. I also still have those calendars we created for a couple years with everyones Sy/Tys and other rides....have there been any more of those? I am sure they will be worth a fortune on Antiques Roadshow someday....

Thanks again, all!

Re: Any old timers out there?

I am old, but I have only been tuned in to syty since 99. Thanks to you and all others who started this site! I have built many muscle type cars, then I found this site, got a TY, sold all V8 stuff and enjoy every minute of TY land! Thank you!

Re: Any old timers out there?

I am not "that" old.
Chooey

Hummm....between Merrill, Dig, Todd, Merk, Mary, Marty, Ed and myself,
I thought you and Lou P. were the same age!!! Only Lou has a real 'red' Sy
(like Marty`s) which makes him "better"

Re: Any old timers out there?

I bought Sy #2648 BRAND NEW... it ran 13.813 bone stock, driven off the dealer's lot and straight to the track, before I even took it home! Within a few weeks, it went low 13's, and a few months later, 12.66. I have also owned 2 other Syclones (#2596 is still local, as well as a crashed, theft recovery basket case, that I parted out). I got on the mailing list around 1996 as "syclonerob", and joined this board around 2000 as "RAACCR". That's about as old as the Old Guard gets, unless you worked at PAS ;)

Uh, not actually. (Not that its relevant, but Merrill dates back a bit earlier):
I have email dating back from Jun 2, 1993 referencing the following members.
Merrill, Eric, James, Ken, Mike Peter, Todd and myself.

Dial up and 1200 baud was the norm (and Ken Mosher was our buick contact).
In those days ATR lived in Roseville, CA, and they had 2 mules for research/development.
Phil, Griffith, and Shirley ran the shop, and knew most of us personally.

Anyways, its nice to still have original owners/vehicles on the list. Remember
when PAS actually called owners, for vehicle status? They had a hot line number,
which eventually went away. But a few of us got a lot of info/documentation from
them back then.

...later
Larry
