Anyone Elses TB To IC Boot Pop Off At WOT?

Re: Anyone Elses TB To IC Boot Pop Off At WOT?

I'm afraid I'm gonna ruin the clamp. I think that's what it needs is a new clamp. Another thing, there's a sensor or solenoid on the turbo with L shaped vacuum lines coming off of it, well it looks as if one of those L's broke in half. But where would I find them at, I have never saw them with the clamp things on them. Thanks!!

You referring to the Vac Lines to that solenoid? If yes, just get a silicone vac kit on here from Sportmachines and change them all out. If that one has started to break, the rest of the lines in there are going to be very brittle, have cracks, and will probably fall apart to dust when you touch th em.

Okay yes that's what I'm referring to. What does that solenoid do? Would that vac like being gone affect performance?

From http://www.corvetteforum.net/c4/dgoodhue/syty_faq.shtml

Vacuum/Boost Lines
I recommend replacing all the boost/vacuum lines on all but the ultra low mileage examples of SyTy's. The vacuum/boost lines that are very important are the turbo solenoid/boost control & the fuel pressure/MAP sensor harness. A leak in the boost solenoid harness will result in overboost, a leak in the map/fuel pressure harness will result in lean condition. Here is a diagram of factory vacuum lines. (they will also be on the factory fan shroud) The can be recreated with 4 & 6mm hoses, preferably silicon. Any lines that are under boost, need to be zipped tied. The factory hose used metal clips for any hose under boost.

And From the old SyTy.org: http://www.syty.org/old/modlist.html
The turbo boost level is controlled via a little solenoid that sits on top of the turbo in the middle of a hose that runs from the turbo to the wastegate. The solenoid acts as a bleeder valve to create a small leak in that hose, so the wastegate won't see all of the boost pressure that the turbo is generating. That solenoid is normally open, so that if it fails, you will only get about 10 psi max boost [8 psi is where the wastegate starts to open]. When the truck is on, there is 12V running to that solenoid and a ground wire running back to the ECM which then switches the ground rapidly to pulse modulate the solenoid (i.e. open and close it really fast to leak-off the flow of boost pressure to the wastegate actuator).

How do you find the parts catalog on sportmachines?

^ there's the thread from their GP. Should still have some available I would assume. If not, some members on here may have some spares laying around.

When I went to do the vac lines on my truck, they were so brittle that most were just crumbling into dust while I was taking them off.

Do you need a 3 ply intercooler to throttle body silicone hose
these are way stronger than the oem units ????

P.S the inside diameter is 4 inch and color is blue !!!

Don't need a new piece there just yet, the one I need is on the turbo, a little vac L. I'm thinking that being off is causing overboost, which is causing the TB to pop off the IC.

Is the color orange silicone hose i have that also
for sale it connects the turbo intake to the air filter
tube if i am correct do you have the stock turbo ???

Pick up some t-bolt clamps from your local auto parts store. I picked up a set for $15. They're way stronger than the crappy old worm gear type.

Yes stock turbo, and no I need the small L shaped boot that goes on the boost solenoid to a vacc line.

Okay thanks I'll check out those t-type clamps, 4 inch right?

Actually, the L-shaped boot becomes irrelevant when you go to a silicone hose. 4mm and 6mm are the most common hose types (actually, the only 2 real sizes I'm aware of under the hood). Those plastic lines and rubber boots are dried up crap. Silicone or rubber vac lines are the best route.

I think so. I think mine are 4" - 4.25". They look like this:

If your wastegate solenoid hoses are broken \ messed up, tread VERY VERY carefully or you WILL destroy the motor in short order. Basically if you're unsure, don't drive the truck in boost at all.

X2. You'll overboost in a heartbeat with a cracked hose.

Good reason #2 to have a working mechanical boost gauge.

Also, how many braces do you have installed holding your intercooler in place?

If you don't have the middle bracket,it's super easy to fab one out of some mild steel.

When running higher than 16psi on any car. THIS IS THE ONLY SOLUTION!!!!
