Someone read up on the Sy/Ty's is soooo "stoked" out about them-and then ooo and ahh, "there so cool" and yet the owners feel like(well me)---shit i need some advil and prozac for this problem i have in the driveway:Always broke(as in the owner and the truck) and never run the way we want or finish(well me). But bring it out or talk about it to non-sytyers and they act like if they lick the front cladding they with give you $100.

So am I the only one?

Re: Anyone ever felt this?

this is not a general idea about the sy/ty - most people with high performance specialty vehicles feel that way.

Re: Anyone ever felt this?

I've gone through a lot. had the motor out twice. didn't drive it for 1/2 a year cuz i was sad. finally had it tuned last week and it ran like hell. then today i start it up and it wont idle smooth or run well. I really thought I had it the way I wanted it. *sigh* I'm back and forth thinking about selling it. Makes me sad.

Re: Anyone ever felt this?

Well mine has always run. Just sometimes better that others. It can be depressing when everything below about 3" down in the engine compartment is unreachable without removing 5 unrelated items.

It's still a KITA to drive.

A little further than I would've taken that allegory...

Re: Anyone ever felt this?

im kind of on the fence with feeling that way. Usually the Ty treats me pretty good but once its sitting there for a while and im out in my buddies cars (87' GN, 04' GTO, 00' Camaro) - I cant help but want to get rid of it and buy a V8 w/ a 6speed. (yes I know the gn is a V6 auto/tranny but a CAR nonetheless) To me its the constant thought of the fact that I own an suv that I cant tow with, go off-roading, and its something I dont wanna drive in the snow, and is pretty much one of the most impractical things I have or will ever own. Its sucks down 93 octane, and parts for it are expensive, and can be hard to find. I wont park it near other cars which forces my lazy ass to walk long distances through parking lots. But these thoughts go away when jaws drop as I drive by people. And I dont know whats better: the feeling of launching the Ty, or the look of awe on the face of the person im racing

Re: Anyone ever felt this?

I just must be a lucky one here. :) I have had my ty for about five years. Runs great, no problems, I have worked on it quite a bit, but it has all been reliablity and performance upgrades. Had it tuned by Rockford Racecraft, and it runs better than day one. Runs high 12's. Sits at 70,000 miles. Original Motor and Trans still great. Believe it or not, it's the most reliable vechical I have owned. I'm almost afaid to get another one, because it seems everyone else has so many problems with theirs. Just thought it would be good to share another point of view.

I used to feel that way, but after my truck was stolen and I didn't have a choice, I don't bitch about it anymore with my second Ty. I love it whether it runs or not.

Take my advice: DON'T!
I was mulling selling it myself until a few days back, when it had been in the shop for six months and the engine (and what not) was out. But then I remembered just how special, unique and rare it is (beside the fact that it's all paid for and MINE, all MINE), and decided not to repeat my mistake with the Mercedes. I'd still want to keep the Ty even if it never ran for another day. There are a few special things in life that only someone smart enough will know how special they are, and if you're smart enough, you'll hold on to that something special you have. Even if I still had the Mercedes today, I would've still bought the Ty. But alas, I was stupid enough to sell the Benz last year, and here I am. Wisdom only comes at a cost.

That last comment caught my eye...
You know what? Last night, I saw a blog on Motor Trend Classic titled "Wanted: your Classic," in which they wanted to know what we have, why we have it, and what makes it special to us. I wanted to write in about my Ty, until I read "pre-1990, please" at the end of the nutgraf! Bummer. But then, I thought about what I would've written about my truck.
The reason I have it, and what makes it special to me, is that the very concept - the philosophy - of the Typhoon is so unique in every way. Just plain SUV it isn't. It's not a car, and it doesn't look like a Ferrari as - to most people - a sports car should, and it's turbocharged! So let's see: A truck that sits sports-car low, a fast car that's not styled as a sports car, and a muscle car that's not a V8. Now just how unique is that? The mere fact that it uses a turbo to boost power with permanent AWD lends an air of "deliberateness" to it, which makes it all the more attractive.
I hope I'm making sense with all this philosophizing.
