Anyone familiar with the Greddy E-01?

Just installed my greddy E-01 controller tonight. Got everything hooked up to what looks correct.

Prob is that the boost reading fluctuates from -20.5 to -20.4 with the ignition on and the truck running. Idle or in throttle, it doesnt change. I ran the vac line from the pressure sensor and T'd it into the AFPR and the back of the upper intake.

All the wiring looks good, everything is connected tight in both the control box and the harness connectors. Im going to check the pressure harness tomorrow with a volt meter to see if Im getting power to the sensor.

Anyone have a clue why Im not seeing a real vac/boost reading?

Have you verified that the vac source (devoid of check valves and whatnot) is capable of showing a reading (by hooking a vac/boost gauge to it independently)? How about the E-01? Tested it on a known good source? I have a tire chuck that I shove 7/32 vac line over for this test. Hook one end to the controller and stick the other end on the tire valve stem for a second. Gauge should show what the tire pressure is. Archaic method, but effective.

Right now, I have the vac line from the pressure sensor T'd into the FPR vac line that goes to back of the upper intake. Not the best place for it, but until I find Hurydes fitting he used to make, it should work. Key word, *should*

I did get it as a used unit, but was assured it was a working unit when it was taken from the SRT4 it was in. The unit powers up and I can change all the parameters in the settings, so it appears to be working properly.... its just the vac/boost isnt reading.

Maybe I need to plumb it directly to the upper intake for a better reading. I'll snap a pic in a bit to show how I have it set up now.

Correct.

Im going to call Greddy Tech on the west coast when their asses wake up.

Heres the pic of the pressure sensor on the firewall T'd into the FPR. Yes, dirty truck... havent cleaned it yet after its 1+ year ride on jackstands

Yeah, there's no harm in tee'ing into the vac line for the FPR. Ideally, you'd like to have separate sources, but what you have is definitely getting vac/boost reference. Sounds like something is amiss (controller, sensor, wiring, etc....).

Welp, talked with the West Coast Tech....

Going to be sending them the control box along with the pressure sensor and harness for them to test and diagnose for free. From what Im told, it sounds like a bad pressure sensor.

So we'll see.

Re: Anyone familiar with the Greddy E-01?

Update...

So before ripping this thing back out to send over to Cali for testing.... decided to double check some things. The other night, me and Ian threw a volt meter on the end of the pressure sensor harness to see if it was getting power. Showed nothing. It was getting dark and just decided to put the truck back in the garage and tackle it later.

So I check it again on my own meter today and again, nothing. Decided to yank the harness at the control box and check the pins at the control box for power. Saw a solid 5 volts at the control box. Hooked up the harness again just to be sure and check again at the end... no power. Called up the guy at Greddy ive been speaking with and they said 5 volts seemed right.

So, Im convinced that its not the pressure sensor, but a faulty sensor harness. Guys at Greddy agreed as well. Ian wants to cut it open and possibly just make a new harness with still using the orig pigtail connectors. If that doesnt work, I can buy a brand new harness from a Greddy dealer for $36. Thats a much better number than the $125 amount it would have been to replace the pressure sensor.

Re: Anyone familiar with the Greddy E-01?

On the suggestion from Ian....cut the sensor harness in half and took a volt reading again and saw 5v at the cut. So I cut the other end and temp spliced everything up. Again, still still 5v at the connector. Sweet.

Hook it up... nothing. Now im getting pissed. I know I have the shit hooked up right. Called Titan Motorsports since they are local to me. They said they would look at it, but not till next week.

Argh. Kept messing around with the wires and tried some other variations on the vac plumbing. No luck. Finally decided to double check the temp splice and do it a bit tighter.

Start up the truck.....

WOOT!!!!!!1111111

I HAVE VAC/BOOST READINGS!

So the prob was a faulty pressure sensor harness. Saving the $36 and going to solder the splice I made properly, put it together with some shrink wrap and be done with it.

"(12:01:13 PM) UCFSyclone: i cant believe you diagnosed a wire problem"

hehehe....Anyone who knows me, knows I DO NOT handle electrical work on my truck. I am not electrically savvy. Yeah, I know "its so easy" but Ian or Gary has always done any elec installs. Lately been figuring it out for myself and did the PLX DM-5 install and now the E-01. If anything, my confidence in knowing I havent burned down my truck is a boost for me. Im happy. Time to start tuning.

congrats. lets see some pics of the installed screen powered up

Yeah, let me get the mess of wires I had to yank back out to figure out the prob and get the dash back together and I'll get some pics going.
