Re: Anyone in Houston want to go check out a Ty for me?

i spoke with the owner and he's going to fax the registration and the title over to my credit union tomorrow. The owner seems like a really nice guy, second owner, said he bought the truck off a royal family from europe. The ty was part of their "royal collection" with ferraris, lambos, maseratis etc... haha i guess the measly GMC grocery getter didnt really fit in with the rest of the italian super cars, so they brought it back to the states and sold it to the current owner.

now if i could get an opinion from some of you guys here it would be great...
to fly to houston from LA and drive the ty back would cost roughly $600
to have the ty transported in an open trailer would cost roughly $660
to have the ty transported in an enclosed trailer would cost roughly $1450

1450 is pretty eff'n steep and i would have to bump the loan amount up a grand to swing it, and have no money for reliability mods... i.e. full tune up, fuel pump, boost gauge, tranny cooler etc.... Shipping it on an open trailer is a lil sketchy to me, i dunno why. But at the same time driving it back is basically the same as having it on an open trailer except i'm puttin 1500 miles on the ty. you think i could get a good car cover ship it to the guy and ship the ty on the open trailer with the car cover on it? or would the cover flappin around in the wind eff up the paint, or worse yet fly off!

anyway.... if one of you houston guys could go check it out that would rule!!! hell i'll even toss ya $20 paypal!!! but only if you come back with good news:p

Wow, that is a CLEAN looking ty, low miles too  ! With regards to the car cover, I would not recommend it. Even if you got one of those pricey "fits like a glove" covers, it is still going to batter the paint over 1500 miles of highway driving. Any open trailer that has provision at the front of it to protect the vehicle from road debris will work fine IMHO. Having trailered my truck to two NATS with a combined distance of over 3300 miles, I never had any damage done to my truck attributed to transport on my open trailer. There are several others with open trailers who will say the same. All the better if the tow vehicle has decent mud flaps on it too.

I would fly out there and drive it back. That is what I did when I bought my Ty. The trip home, you may find, is a very rewarding feeling and it helps you get aquanted with the truck too. Besides, do you think that 1500 miles driven in and around our city wouldn't be harsh enough? It's at 13k on the od now, what's 14.5k? Gas is cheaper now... take advantage. Take the GF with you if you can!! Personally I would be willing to extend my loan to buy an extra plane ticket because your getting a great deal on the truck. Mods can come later... it's a very clean, very low milage Typhoon and it will be fine the way it is for a while at least.

Drive it back, Neal. It will be a trip you'll never forget!!

Re: Anyone in Houston want to go check out a Ty for me?

driving it back would be fun, i have friends and family in new mexico and arizona i could stop by and see on the way. hmmm i wonder if i could make if from houston to phoenix in one day... when you mentioned bringing my gf i almost sprayed coffee out of my mouth all over the monitor. hahaha not only will she never ride with me in the syclone again (she says i put her life in danger when i drive the syclone, cause i take off fast and she gets scared

), but i couldn't imagine driving all that distance with her in the car and not getting to listen to my music. I'd go nucking futs!!! and i sure as hell wouldn't be able to talk to her for 25 hours, by the time we got back i'd probably have a vagina.

i think the decision really comes down to my work schedule. cause if i flew out on friday and drove home sat and sun, i would be dead tired on monday. unless i went over new years, in which case my drive would probably go from 25 hours to 40!

it's gonna be sad to see the syclone go.

I say open trailer. It will be alot easier on you and your wallet. The 1500 mile drive alone would cost at least $175 in gas,and would take 20 hours.

Damn dude that is a nice truck. I'm with Steve though. I would totally drive it back. Before I bought mine I was willing to go far enough to find a nice one and was planning on driving it back. I think it would be fun and would definitely help you get to know the truck if you can work out your schedule to do it.

Just hope there aren't any snow storms brewing up between when you pick up the truck and when you get out of Texas. Towing a trailer in the snow isn't a fun thing.

Re: Anyone in Houston want to go check out a Ty for me?

That is for sure a good find!!!!! I dont mind looking at it for you just let me know what i can do.... Im in North Houston. A 13k truck isnt going to have many things to worry about, maybe valve seals from sitting without starting it every other week or so. Just check all the fluids and maybe a lift to look at everything else easily. I wouldnt hesitate buying that Typhoon, I would have it trailerd back for sure.
