if so, where did you go with it? i'll be dealing with that tonight after it cools off here...would lower be better to prevent oil drainback? i seem to believe mine drains back when not started for days...maybe not...i installed my new battery and tray where the oil filter was...what a pain

My only recommendation would be to put it someplace protected, or protect it where ever you put it. Oil filters aren't know for being all that tough. If you put it under the truck think seriously about some kind of gravel guard or something. Never know when you might hit a pothole or have a tire chuck a stone or something. Or think about an aftermarket filter that would be more durable.

i just finished this last night...i'm uploading pics of it right now...the hose i use is made by aeroquip and is rated for 2250 psi...the steel cord it contains is on the inside with a fabric outer layer...i'll get the specifics on the hose in a bit...

here's some info on the hose and fittings... http://www.hoseline.net/aeroquip/fc300.htm the hose is fc300 by aeroquip...fittings are eaton/aeroquip, reusable, designed for this hose...very easy to work with...i used -8 for the oil remote relocation to keep around the same 1/2" inside diameter...before i did this, it took longer for the rockers to spurt oil...now they almost instantly pump oil out...i'm pretty sure i was getting considerable drainback (because the filter was mounted so high) before this mod...my filter housing now resides on the outside of the framerail almost directly down from the driver's side door opener handle and keyhole...for the oil cooler, i used the atr/hayden useless i/c upgrade cooler...i have an assortment of fans that came with my truck that i am no longer using...i may play around with one on the new remote tranny cooler and the engine oil cooler later...i fabbed up a quick bracket to mount my engine oil cooler under the bed around where the spare usually goes...

i have my trans filter on the outboard side of the pass frame rail just before it turns up for the rear wheels.
when i change to a dual core radiator it wont have the oil cooler and i will do the relocate the exact same way for the oil filter except it will go on the drivers side.

let me know if you need a parts list to do this...it will save you alot of time...if you notice, i used 2 different length 90's on the first pic...they fit perfect and cleared everything...i'm pretty sure the atr/hayden will be more than enough for cooling the engine oil...also when i went to change the oil, i was able to drain the cooler, lines and all because the filter housing is now at the lowest point of all...you can't do that on a stock setup unless you remove the adapter at the block...nice job on the tranny filter BTW...
oh yeah one more thing...for people running in cold areas up north, you may need on of these

I do have one question. Oil cooler mount. The pic looks like its sitting flat against the floor. Is it really? If so, how does the air go through it to cool the oil? Or is that the temporary part you were talking about?

I woudl keep an eye on that oil cooler mounted under the bed like that. I ahve seen a tranny cooler placed in the same area get damaged from the rear end contacting it on big bumps......Solution was to move the tranny cooler back some and tilt it slightly....works like a champ now....

thanks...if you look under a sy bed, there are rails that run across the bottom of the bed...i imagine they are for strength as well as mounting the bed to the chassis...its hard to see in my crappy photo, but if you look closely, one of those rails is taller than the other, so i mounted the cooler to flat steel across those...it gave the cooler an angle instead of being flat against the bed...the support thats closest to the rear of the truck is about 3 or more inches from the bed and the one closest to the differential is about 1 1/2 inches from the bottom of the bed...also, my differential wouldn't even touch my oil cooler even if it contacted the bottom of the bed...i will take a side shot later to show this...my picture just gives you that illusion... like i said i'll post a better photo of this just please excuse the poor shape of the fins of my cooler because quite a few of the fins bent from the wreck on my ty (before i owned it) and mishandling it and tossing it around my shop for months before i found a better use for it...i have a much better cooler exactly like it that came off the sy, but i put it in such a safe place, that i haven't been able to find it yet...

Firing up the wayback machine here. I'm about to relocate my filter and remember a post about the SyTy remote filter adapters having flow issues. Should I just use a different adapter/filter while I'm at it? I saw a remote filter adapter with a filter on it that was twice as long as ours somewhere, seemed like a decent way to improve capacity while I'm relocating.

Servando, I'd like to get your parts list, and any info on the battery relocation as well. I want to do this before I replace my A/C hose assembly/accumulator/expansion valve and button it back up. I'm tired of the A/C hose being in the way of battery removal. I think that is why it's leaking.
BTW, I am buying a house up here in Dallas, with a nice extra garage for Typhoon projects. I'll probably not be doing the fromt brakes. etc . until I have it up here (est move is June 6).

The only real pain with doing this is that moving the filter housing puts you further from the radiator/cooler....just find a decent engine oil cooler and don't use the one in the radiator....I did fine using the stock filter housing and block adapter....also used an old atr aux cooler...

I had the list at my fingertips back when I did this mod....I'll be able to compile another one when I do motor mounts in the very near future...best thing about the parts I used is that you'll be able to find them at any hydraulic supply store...the battery relocation was a snap...I'll get you a photo of the tray....I just made 3 "L" shaped brackets, positioned them, tacked and then welded them to the tray....I think I even used existing holes on the truck to mount the tray to....one bolt to the fenderwell, one to the radiator support and one to the fender....Our positive cable reaches the passenger side just fine....but you'll have to extend or address the smaller gauge positive that goes to the headlight harness....

Actually im working on that right now im going with a Billet Oil Filter reloacation kit. the stock one just leaks and im putting my battery in its location. i bought the Billet kit on Ebay for $70.00 then the Braided hose and fittings from Summit there is only one thing that was hard to get its the screw in adapter for the block but i got it from Chevy Dealer i might have the part number around somewhere if you need pics i can show you. my Email address is rosszahara@hotmail.com
