anyone tried liquid nails on cladding tabs?

Mephisto

These trucks are cursed
well just like the title says...

anyone tried this? im just wondering if theres any chemicals or toxins etc in it that might eat the cladding or disfigure it. after 15 years those tabs on the cladding like to just fall off.

or...

what have people used with sucessful results?

I dont think liquid nails will work long term. Use this stuff....

Its what a paint and body shop would repair it with.

You could also try using JB Weld. I have used this stuff to fix all kinds of plastic and metal. It really works good. Make sure to ruff-up the areas with sandpaper so there is a texture for the JB Weld to hold on to...

I used Fusor 123 I think its called. Its for a ford explorer rear window hinge recall. It holds the tabs for the struts to the glass. So I just grab it out of parts here at the dealership since ford sent us a bunch. Strong as hell, I put it in the corners of the tabs that hadn't broken too. You have to scuff it and use a primer that come with it for best results, but it works without the primer too.

Fusor is tough stuff! Ford uses that stuff on door skins, lift gates and to hold the roofs on thier SUV's and vans (yes, if you have a ford suv or van your roof is glued on. ).
Here is more info on Fusor...

Not to be the pessimist but if you own a typhoon, your roof is glued on too!
Both the B and C pillars are glued with epoxy, not welded. Along with all the ribbing, its all glued.
Only weld is on the A-pillar.

Ask tygraine, dan, he re-skinned his roof and took a pic of each step.

I know...I believe every automaker in the world uses the same methods now days. I was just refering to the use of fusor and was also attempting humor at the same time. I know as of 5 years ago that fusor was OE for Ford. I had a job selling the stuff back then.

Re: anyone tried liquid nails on cladding tabs?

Just dont get it(Fusor) on you, I still have pants that it is stuck to from a month ago. If it gets on your hands just wait for that layer of skin to fall off.

Fusor here too.

I didnt use the primer but I did degrease and scuff the area in to which the fusor was to be applied. Degrease it before you scuff it or youll just grind the contaminates deeper into the part and it will never hold no matter what you use as an adhesive.

I'm glad that our roofs are glued on as opposed to being welded.. I can gurantee you that if they were welded that we would all have rust spots by now where those welds were made..

Go to... www.keystone-auto.com

Thats who I worked for about 5 years ago. They cant ship Fusor because its considered hazardous material but if they have a location close to you guys they will probably be cheaper than most body shop supply stores.

Re: anyone tried liquid nails on cladding tabs?

Ok I give, anyone know for sure what type of plastis our cladding is made of? There are so many different repair products available, how do you chose the right product with out knowing what base you are working with i.e. T.P.O., P.P., S.M.C. and on and on. I have a rf fender cladding that needs repair and thought about using a very high quaility plastic welder that we use for repairing motorcycle fairings which makes a repair that is as strong or stronger than the damaged area but there again you have to know what base plastic material you have to choose the correct plastic "welding rod".
Anybody know what we got?

Wow! That would be way too eaasy! Thanks Smaug, I'll pull the broken skirt tonight and check the back side and see what it says. BTW, you wouldn't happen to have a R/F fender cladding would you?

True.........but you'll notice that the rear and front covers are made of different blends than the side cladding parts. The fronts and rears are containing MORE plastics and the sides are a carbon plastic mix with some fibre blends.........one of the reasons they degrade and become so brittle. Old method of the day.
If they were to do it today........they would all be more like the fron/rear plastic parts. A little tougher but not great.
I bought a Ebay fender cladding ( I think from Ohio) and it fell apart in the box it came in ....all tabs boken. NOS.=POS in this case.
.................Vinny
