Are these good foe the price?

I am in need of some tires, as my Sy has been sitting for a couple of years and has never had the stock firehawks changed (thats what the owner from before said) :woot: I looked at these for awhile and can't find anything wrong with them except some complaints about road noise. I don't think that's too big of a problem for the price, but what do you guys think? I don't have all the money in the world to spend on tires, because of that mess :checkit: so I just need a cheaper set of performance tires. Thanks

We deal with Kuhmo's all the time, they do just fine. The 712 isn't known as their best tire, but not their worst either. Check out what we have on our site: http://www.bigwheels.net/index.php?location=tires&view_mode=&status=&size_tire=245-50-16 Take a look at these two tires that are in the same price range. First, the Kumho SPT KU31. It's a newer Kumho tire that I'd defeintely take over the 712; it's close to the same price as well. Also, I was impressed with the Yokohama Avid V4s. Those are in the same price range as well. If I were you, I'd go with one of those over the Kumho 712. Let me know if you have any other questions.

kuhmo ecsta 712's suck. Especially in any kind of weather. Treadlife is horrible if you drive hard at all. I had a set on my 02 wrx and they sucked. I'd never buy another set.

The 712's on my truck followed "truck grooves" in the road so bad it took the fun out of driving it. I did ball joints, tie-rods, idler arm, pitnam arm, and had it aligned to sportmachine specs. Still drove for sh1t. 2 years ago I went with Toyo proxy 4's in 17's on some ROH ZS wheels and now I can cruise down the same roads one handed. Before it looked like I'd had a few everytime I went somewhere, wandering all over my lane.

I got 1.7 60' all the time on the Kumhos and 1.85's on the Toyo's. If I had to do it over again I'd gone with green dot's (or DR's) on the stock wheels and ONLY get good tires for street driving.

My wifes Yukon on Hancook 20's is a turd on the same grooved roads, I WILL NOT buy cheap tires again.

The price of the tire wouldn't effect the tracking of grooves in the road. The only difference would be the width (main reason), tread design, and age of the the tire (a new tire will follow grooves more than a new one). A tire with wider tread grooves may be less inclined to follow grooves in the road, but whether you spend a ton of money on tires or not wouldn't necessarily make the difference. Basically, if you run big wide slick expensive race tires on the street, the road will pull you all over the place, especially under braking.

I like Toyos too, just that in the size they only have the Proxes 4, which is more of a car tire. In this situation, I'd vote for the two I previously mentioned.

Try ebay. I bought some nice tires with low mileage for basically nothing! I think I paid $150 for 4 tires with less than 3000 miles on them

live1053rulz, are there any issues or anythong on those yokohomas and kumhos you recommended? I like both of those tires and looks like many people agree with them in their reviews. Also, anyone here have some infor on these Firestone Firehawk wide ovals? They seem to be much liked by a few Z06 owners based from the reviews. Thanks for all the feedback!

Nope, in our experience, those both have been great all around tires. Considering price, performance, and ride quality, those there are a couple of our favorites. I don't know about those Firestones, haven't had personal experience with those, I just know I was impressed with the Kumhos and Yokohamas for that price.

I have Kuhmo tires on my Ty and ther seem to be OK for me. They wear great approx 40K miles so far w/plenty tread left (they still look new). I sometime find the same occasional wandering as mentioned above. They do not perform well if you need to stop in anything over 1.5" of snow. I bought S-10 rims and WINTER tires for snow. They work great but look like crap.

I have these on our 98 LS1 6 speed T/A. They are a nice tire, good grip in the rain. They are alot better than the yokohomas they replace. I have ZO6 rims on it, with a 295/35-18 on the rear. You might look at the Traction T/A for your truck if you have the stock rims.
