I agree with you until you said "under-qualified owner/mechanics"
Because a boost line that was dry rotted to begin with broke and I missed it doesn't mean I'm "under qualified" in my eyes!!!!!!!!!!
There's an OG on here that had a stock 92. After 12 years of ownership, he finally got it sorted out. He then proceeded to put 30,000 miles on it in 18 Months, he enjoyed driving it so much. It went Coast to Coast 5 times, with the final trip to it's new owner in Rhode Island. The only non-scheduled maintenance during this period was a new O2 sensor, rear axle seals, and the rotted-out stock muffler was replaced when a used ATR was found.
The new owner made a mistake while working on it, and put a rod through the block after owning it for 17 days. So the point is, even proven-reliable trucks won't tolerate "mistakes" by under-qualified owner/mechanics.
