Ive recently decided to add an AWD setup to my 4wd suv. I found a safari van at the junkyard that had a good transfer case so i pulled it but the driveshaft was missing. Heres the problem i have:
The front diff is still there but when you spin the driveshaft flange theres no resistance and the axles dont move leading me to believe theres something wrong with the inner gears. The passenger shaft has been pulled out about 2 inches like someone couldnt break the cv shaft loose n pulled the axle out instead.
What im wondering is what would be the best way to go? Should i buy an awd front diff, buy the broken awd from the van n rebuild it, or try to salvage the awd parts (axles and driveshaft flange) from the van diff and use in my old 4wd case and gears? They are both 3.42 gears.
I know the easiest way would be to buy a new diff but i cant find one n im afraid if i ask on here ill be looking at about $250-400 for a good one. Worth the money, but i just bought the transfer case and an awd setup for my 2nd gen so im a little low on cash for a few weeks.
Any info i can get would help. I know what parts i will need but dont know how hard it would be rebuild/ change over. Or if someone has one for sale cheap id be interested. Thanks
