Thread vanished overnite....?
Still unsuccessful in getting that _ _ _ _ wheel cover off!!!
Mike loaned me a 'key' but it wouldn't fit the bolt, so my new project is a static model 20 miles from home...........
I'll try GMC on Mon, I guess.

just drill it out

X2. After drilling it out, remove the other centercap bolts and replace them with stainless ones that utilize an allen wrench. Much easier to get on and off. Don't forget to use anti-sieze:2cents:

not shure if your talking about the center caps on the stock rims but if you are use a flat screw driver, not to small take a couple of differant sizes with you. theres a straight part in the key desighn that a small flat driver will fit in. my key is no good so i put my center caps on and off with a flat driver . works fine.

Re: Bad tire & wheel lock frozen

Did the above fix work? Have you drilled them yet? If not, and it were me, I get a left handed drill bit. You have to got to a "real" tool store but with a left handed, once the bit catches it will usually bring out the troublesome piece.

Did you get the covers off. I have my key if you want to try it.

Re: Bad tire & wheel lock frozen

Mike loaned me a key......but didn't fit. Mine is the s/w triangular-appearing shape & his was the 'flower' shape - more rounded. Which shape is yours?
I'm going to try the c-clamp trick this am & if that doesn't work, I'll weld a socket on the 'key' & use the impact-driver.........
Don, thanks for the L-handed drill idea!

Re: Bad tire & wheel lock frozen

My truck which was stolen has not been seen again....I'm certain that it was stolen by pro's. The driver's side window was knocked out and they took it in the middle of the day on Samaritan drive next to the hospital. It wasn't stripped and dumped, so it's probably in Mexico....
Found the new one on Craigslist - it's all original 160 k. paint's worn thru, seats are poor, R door cladding is broken and the usual dings & dents of a daily driver...been sitting in a garage since March. They couldn't get the wheel off to change the flat tire...prior owner just drove it - but it doesn't smoke, passed smog and hasn't been modified.
It's a restoration project for certain.

You're going to ruin the bolts anyway. Use a left-handed drill bit, or an "easy-out" after drilling holes in them. Then for the future, pick up some allen head stainless bolts. I've been looking into either Torx or Torxplus bolts because they're less common than allen bolts. The only problem is finding them in the size we need.

Thanks, I was just about to ask if anyone knew the size, since I cannot find the key to mine either. This should help....

Re: Bad tire & wheel lock frozen

used a Sears easy-out with a tapered wedge which threads down the left-handed drill when u get deep enough. It wedge in there "for good" and I *still* couldn't break it loose.........finally twisted the head off the bolt!!!!!!!
So it's off and the donut spare is on.......only 3 to go (but at least I drove it home). Thanks to all who had ideas to share.
