"Beat the Syclone" $500 Challenge

So the other day, I step into this performance shop in my home town here with one of my friends to check out some stuff for his turbo AWD DSM. I then recognize the owner of the shop and he looks farmiliar, from where I'm not sure yet. He goes, "you're the kid with that syclone right?" So we start to talk about the street racing sceene around town from this past summer which is pretty pathetic, lots of high 14 sec cars, one turbo integra that is pretty quick, has gone 12.6, a 300ZX that usually runs like shit but moves pretty good when it runs right, and rumor of a supra that has made 580hp to the wheels on a dyno but I've never seen the car. Then he starts talking about how him and his friends can't wait to get their cars out and do some street racing this summer, and see how they stack up to the Sy on the street. He then says "That truck is pretty fast but we'll see what happens this summer." I told him I probobly won't do a lot of street racing in town here this summer because why, most these cars are slow. Then I get to thinkin and realize there's nothing better than kids who want to pay me to beat their ass so I work up a deal. I said, "You get 10 cars, I don't care what they are, if their stock or not, bottom line, I don't care, just get 10 cars. I will race everyone of them for $50 each as long as they ALL aggree to race, one night, a $500 cash deal. If I beat the first 6, the last four can't back out." He replies, "I'm not so sure you want to do that, we've got some fast cars this year, we've got at least 3 DSM's that run well into the 13's. I saw you race your truck at BIR and made several passes in the 13.1's." It's too bad he didn't see me run at Tri-State in Iowa when I ran my new 21psi Dig chip and ripped off a 12.530, 12.531, 12.533, and a 12.47. This is the chip I will be running on the street for this deal. So we have it arranged, that he's gonna get a total of 10 cars, his and 9 of his friends, we'll do a one night deal, run all 10 races with a short cool down between each run. I get to start against the slowest car first, and there's no backing out. So if I smoke the first 7, the last 3 can back out of the race, but they still owe me $50 each. So far the list of cars is as follows, Supra, 300ZX, the shop owners DSM(low 13 sec car), about 4-5 other DSM with minor mods, the turbo integra, and what ever else they can scrape up. Needless to say, I'm not real worried. I may not beat them all, but the only ones I'm worried about are the Supra, and the shop owners DSM. I beat the 300ZX before by about 2 car lenghts when my truck was running 13.3's and was dead even with the integra(after I smoked him off the line, car has some serious top end). Even if I get beat by one or two, I'll still make about $400. I'm looking forward to it, should be a good time.

This event will for sure be on video tape! Nothing wrong with a little street racing home video! I'll post it to the forums once it goes down.

Did you mention no trailored cars?? Here in NJ the street racing scene is dead in most parts but where it isn't .. there is tons of 11 sec street cars and even a few 10 sec cars.. 12s and 13s are a dime a dozen.. so be careful.. and Good Luck.. hope you represent syty proudly ::eek:k::

This reminds me of Cedar Falls, "unload 'em" and they all laughed at us, the best part was they had their 1/8 mile times still in their window, we knew we had them beat before we ever started.

Your Sy and intercooler will get hotter, and considerably slower, after each car. A long cool down, ice bags and a garden sprayer for the lower heat exchanger will help a lot.

My truck is pretty much stock. When I race, I run open downpipe, Nitto drag radial's, my killer 21psi Dig chip, no air filter(at the track only), sunoco 112 octane, and a torque strap. Thats it. Stock motor, trans, converter, heads, turbo, intercooler,....... All with 106,000 miles. I've got to give the thanks to Dig, his tuning is awesome! As far as the cars go, there are no 10 or 11 sec cars here. At best, I'll get a 12sec car. In Minneapolis/St Paul, about 1 hour southeast, we get some serious street racing, like 8 and 9 sec cars on the street, along with a few 10 and 11 sec, and tons of 12 13 sec stuff.

make sure the the fire exstinguisher is the co2 kind to cool with. also don't just line up again after eacn run. a little drive between runs won't hurt and will help cool the tranny down.

just a thought. since our trucks tend to all look pretty similar, if these other guys start throwing insane things in trailers at you, ask for a little headstart. then...we'll smuggle in someones 10 sec sy and watch some faces get real long!!!!

It would be great if you had enough room to run more than 2 vehicles at once. If you could run your Sy and 3 of their cars at once that would be awesome.

I know the fast and curious scene.

I tell ya what, I actually did that last summer in an industrial park with a boulevard. My Sy versus a DOHC Mustang Cobra, a Mustang GT, and some other car I cant remember. 4 wide! It was pretty intense. But I'll have to save that story for another time.. I did win, at any rate!

I'm not going to run all ten races within a 4 minute period. I know better than to put my truck through this. Back to back runs w/ no cool down would be asking for trouble. We'll do it over a several hour span in one night and probobly 2-4 different locations outside of town to keep out the hands of the law. This is not my first street racing event of my life, so we've got it figured out pretty good by now. Not sure of a date yet, will be a couple months, I'd say April sometime. We still have snow on the ground and my truck won't come out of storage for 6-8 weeks.

I live in St. Cloud, MN. This is where it will go down.
