Bed side R&R.....estimates ?

I was hit by an uninsured mototist on last Tues. She nailed me in the rear drivers wheel and bedside at a glancing blow. Tailgate won't quite open and the truck is sitting cock-eyed low on that side.

My question is.....has anyone gone through this with having a bedside replaced and all the repairs that go with it ? I'll be needing prices for cladding left resr, overfender, gate, rear valance etc.
I need to get all my ducks/costs in a row .......I'm going after her legally.

Oh yeah....wedesday eve......my shop was broken into and completely cleaned out.

Time for this boy to get on an improved insurance plan. :2cents:

Cheers,Vinny

you ok?

sucks more about your shop than your truck. You insured against theft for that??

Truck will prolly end up being like $3500. i'd go after a new bed personally.

wow vin bad luck must come by the gross down there.

Sorry to hear about the truck.

I dunno about replacing a bedside but I would be afraid of it staying square once they cut it up.
Go for the new bed with some nice CF cladding molded in.
Lets hope there is no frame damage.

That is nuts about the shop.
I find it hard to believe that was a random hit.

Hope your alright , sometimes the pain comes days afterwards . Hopefully her financial situation doesnt reflect the amount of insurance she had .

Do you have uninsured motorist coverage ??

Re: Bed side R&R.....estimates ?

I'm on liability on all my cars right now. I've been pitching in on my ailing parents needs/costs etc. So I wanted to spread the money out the best I could...besides, I've driven for 29 years without ever having an accident....why would I need full coverage right ?? Same theory on the shop insurance the last 3 months. Gawd.

Anyway.........I spun around about 230 degrees after the impact, backs sore, neck hurts....banged my head top on the drivers glass pretty good. Overall ok.

finding a rust/dent free Sy bed will be pretty tough I would think unless you guys know of a front collision total somewhere ?
I only know of one good donor bedside locally....no full bed. I think I may have a slightly bent axle, deffinatly the wheel. It doesent LOOK so bad.....but FEELS bad due to the vibrations and oddities that have been exaserbated by the impact.

Any one who would share copies of paid reciepts for cladding and parts/repairs would be much apprecited!! I can better prepare myself for suit.
Cheers,Vinny

It's just an S10 bed with holes drilled in it.
S-dime a dozen

Wow bro, that really sucks on the shop ins too.
If you need a hand over a weekend let me know.
It's about 4 hours and we can just do an overnighter.

Full coverage for sure from here on out. I'm 45 years old and always managed to avoid the idiots behind the wheel.

Thus far......even though it doesent appear bad physically.....estimates are at 6400-8,200$..
I'm shocked actually. Some shops wouldn't even bid it due to the age of the truck and their estimating software. They didn't go back to 91', was their comment.

I've never had to sue someone before. I hope her parents realize what they are going to face. The Police report is a closed case in my behalf.

Her second wreck in 30 days too. Frickin' teenagers .

Looks like my message on their home machine got through to a parent this time ! I recieved a call from her father stating that he wasn't aware of any wreck on his daughters behalf. So I faxed him the police report.
That little bitch 18 year old was erasing my messages and hiding her cars damage but also tried to tell her Mom "it was hit at school in the parking lot" !
He prompltly forwarded me the REAL insurance info and I called them to get the ball rolling.
We'll see how this goes down from here.

Anyone know of a FULL SY bed for sale ??? ;)

Re: Bed side R&R.....estimates ?

Damn sorry to hear about all that. i had a similar situarion in College with teenage femail driver (she was 17). It was pretty funny when her Father (whos name was on the car she was driving) got served at work and had no idea what was going on. In FL you can sue the owner of the vehicle for the accident. He contacted me immedately and we settled out of court.

Re: Bed side R&R.....estimates ?

Well....I managed to raise the fathers attention ...and I'm now working with their REAL insurance co.finnally.
Problem is.....my estimates came in at 6400$ and 8200$....and their own estimater came in at 3500$?????? :?
So...with a spread like that...this isn't going too well right out the second gate. So I sent a packet to my agents office explaining the Sy's rarity and difficult to buy cladding parts, blah, blah and asked him to go to bat for me on this.
No word as of a week later.
Can anyone share what they had to do to come out on top of their incident ???

Vin,
I am an Insurance Damage Appraiser. I can give you all the details you need for both on how to handle the insurance company with the price difference and details with a body shop. Feel free to send me a pm. If you get me some good photos, I bet I can write a pretty good estimate from here. I can also provide documentation on the value of these trucks.

I don't know your state laws but I do know in WA state you are legally able to get any shop of your choice to do the work.
I had a girl hit my nova back in college. I drove around to dealers getting estimates (figured they would be highest), and picked the highest estimate and submitted it.

Insurance calls me up, says they want me to drive 50 miles to their office to look and they don't agree with estimate.

I responded with Sir state law says I can use whoever I want and only need to submit 1 estimate of the shop of my choice. The law also states you can owe me diminished value of my car.

His response was something like "Jeff, where would you like me to send the check?"

I would mention you are checking and doing research on diminished value laws and will get back to him. I suspect they will want to close the case quicker.

Vinnie - I think Ivanko Barbell has a bed with cladding on it for sale. He's in Nevada though. PM him and see if he's still got it.

Thanks for the info. I think if I knew some of this going into the first recorded conversation....things might have proceeded more in my favor.I guess my next interview will be the telling tale.
My agent called......and stated that the higher bid location is actually on the insured's approved list. Seems odd to me that there is a $4,697.00 difference between the insured's bid and the accepted shops bid ??? :?
I almost feel things would go smoother for me if they would just ct a check for the higher bid....and allow me the amount of time I'll need to collect the proper parts and fix things right.
Those of you working in Insurance.....how do I make that point clear to them and simply recieve a check for the higher bid ?
