Belltech Leafs vs stock leafs with blocks typhoon

Guys im slowly getting ready to buy a ty and still looking but first thing suspension wise will be to drop it but kinda confused here.

In rear by replacing stock leafs and putting in belltech drop leafs do you get a full 3 inch drop? Or is it more like a 2 inch over stock?

That being said is the ride with stock leafs mated to a 2 inch block better then the belltech 3 inch drop leafs?

Thanks again

Re: Belltech Leafs vs stock leafs with blocks typhoon

I have no clue about the belltech springs but I have 3" blocks and luckily I have air shocks or I would hit my axel on the bump stops every little bump. So if your going to lower the rear 3" your not going to have much suspension in the back at all unless you were to notch it and who wants to cut there Ty? So unless the springs you're talking about are real stiff and or you still have air shocks you're gonna be on your bump stops a lot if you lower it 3" in the rear.

The beltech leafs are roughly a 2" drop compared to stock spings and they ride a lot better than blocks. I've had my truck both ways and the beltech leafs are much better of a ride.

ok in rear like ive done on the older blazers cant you cut the bumpstop bracket on the frame (not c notch) and add in little 3/8 tall bumpstops to get more travel.

ie pretty much cutting this bracket off to get more travel. Unless the ty has a different rear bumpstop bracket set up

I think if you cut off too much of the bump stop the tires will take out the cladding.

yes it would i removed it from my syclone and it broke the cladding but then i installed the caltracs and problem solved at least in my case

The ride with Belltechs is much better.

The ride with stock leafs and blocks is absolutely horrible.

ok if using leafs shock has to be shorter. What shock are you guys running? Ive had good results with belltech street performance.

Also in front I know you can decrank stock keys but belltech has 1-3 inch aftermarket keys isnt the ride with those better vs stock keys decranked?

Correction: If you take ANY out the top of the tires will contact the lip on the cladding...

I'd love to do something to increase travel in the rear but in order to do so the wide stance would have to be sacrificed such that the wheels would tuck inside the cladding.. IMO its just not worth it.. I love the way the edge of the wheels finishes flush with the edge of the cladding..

Your best bet is to ditch the leaf springs and go with a 4 link and progressive coil-overs.. That way your spring rate increases the more the spings get compressed. It allows for a soft ride taking out the small bumps but it really stiffens up when the suspension is forced to travel more than just a little..

You also can contact turbotime, they sell coil overs for the front and rear. Use the stock leafs with coil overs. You can remove the smaller leafs to lower the rear also. Use the stock main leaf just to hold the rear end in place, then run the coil overs in the stock location as your suspension. Then run a sway bar or something to help with side to side motion (aka cornering). That's what I was going to do.

I my running sportsmachine front coilovers and A arms in the front. And belltech 3 inch lowering leafs with 1 inch spacer, set back plates, caltrac bars. I still need to buy affco adjustable shocks for the rear ( sportsmachines sells them). I have not installed rear suspension yet. Still sitting in the garage.

Drop keys suck, I don't think you will like it. Must go with coilovers :)

Lol, but they still sell the shocks. I just called like three months ago

Jax can still get them :) I used most of this set up on my old ty.

My old ty with this setup on it, the only difference is I used a fiberglass mono leaf from a syclone.

Hell, if you want I have brand new drop keys sitting in my garage. Come by the house, we can put them on real quick and see if you like it. I don't think you will. Lol.

I've had 1, 2, and 3" blocks, Belltech leafs with 2 and 3" blocks and I like the leafs with 2" block best so far.

Yes you need to notch part of the bump stop bracket when that low but as long as you move it you won't hit the cladding.

Will a adjustable shock fix this? Qa1 or afco? That's my plan. Kind of expensive but I think it would be best.

Re: Belltech Leafs vs stock leafs with blocks typhoon

i cal talk to belltech about a different shock. Just like i worked on the kw german double adjustable shocks for the rear of the tbss i can get something made. Ive been selling belltech since 1996 so have some good plugs.

Re: Belltech Leafs vs stock leafs with blocks typhoon

belltechs are softer, they twist easier. this is why you see people on here saying they give a better ride. if you want a slight drop and softer suspension response then they are a good way to go. they can wrap up faster under extreme load and do this neat bunny hop thing.
