I have been doing some work to this car for a while, recently putting in a 3400 engine from an 03 impala. Now i picked up some parts from a friend. A turbo and intercooler from a 91 Syclone. Im not the best designer or know everything but im geting along. Tell me what you think. also any tips????
I plan on running anly around 6-8 psi. I hope i can go that low.
Otherwise my engine is basicly stock.

This is some of the crossover. as you can see im not the best welder. my
first 2 hours of welding is here.

This is the croosover pretty much done. angle grinder is your friend, i cleaned up some welds

These are the crossover pics of it installed and complete.

Pic from today and about 2-3 hours. everything is not welded all the way but its basicly done.

Here is my flange i made up from 3/8" this steel. My skills have gotten better i think.

Clearence for my intake. I have alot of room

pretty innovative.

Hope it works for you.

looks good....I would only suggest that you install some sort of solid motor mounts with the turbo mounted on the body like that....I see you used a flex coupling on one side, but it looks pretty rigid and will probably lead to cracks on your tubing.... what are you going to do for an ecm?

Did you pressure test your piping before installing it all?

Are MIGing it, or Arc/stick welding?

Re: Beretta with Syclone turbo Proj.

id put a heat shield of some type on that downpipe, but it looks good. good luck with the project

Re: Beretta with Syclone turbo Proj.

Well i have no real way to pressure test it. i have not started it yet. I check for holes though. i put water in it. I don't know how accurate that is but i didn't see any leakes.

Im using the GOD of all welders. an 80amp with no gas fluxcore (mig) LOL

heat shield yeah......i bought some header wrap, so i'll se how that works..i have 100FT by 2" of it. cost me an arm and a leg for that crap.

oh all piping is 16GA....in case someone was wondering. crossover is 2" and down pipe is only 2 1/4" once i get under the car that is 2 1/2". I do want to make it better but i need it to run first.

Interesting project, while you realize that your welding skills arent the best (hey neither are mine) you do get kudos for taking the initiative to try something new with the out of the box thinking..

I also commend you on your decision to replace the stock SyTy wastegate and run something RELIABLE.. I just wonder why you chose to run a SyTy turbo at all..with the 4.3L you have to have a spot on turne or wait and wait for the boost to come up.. (with the tight RPM range of the 4.3L its bad enough) There are plenty of more efficient turbos out there that possibly are more suited to your engine than the SYTY turbo...I suspect it was cheap ??

What are you going to run for ECM ? Or you going to run stock ECM and an FMU setup or ??

Re: Beretta with Syclone turbo Proj.

well I got it from a friend who decided to sell his car which he was going to do this to. so i bought it from him for a reasonable price. for one i did like the size. I don't know a whole lot about turbos, so no i don't have a real reason for using it. It should give me a nice upgrade and if i wanted to go higher i can upgrade to a 20G wheel with little mods. I think it hooks right up but i have not looked into it. My engine has a higher compresion 9.5.1 but revs to 6200rpm. so i'l see what it does hopefully my higher compression makes up for exhaust flow. i don't know the math so im hoping.. plus saying i have a Syclone turbo just sound cool. lol

Yeah i know my welds are bad. but its flux core. i did get a lot better. i never used one before. i just started in april. I just figured out i had my wire speed too fast.

for fuel im using an AIC ???? well it reads boost and basied upon that and my engine specs it uses what i "should need" when it doesn't see boost it does nothing so my stock ECU will work like it always has.(its not a FMU though) I do want to get a full stand alone one of these days but money is tight. little steps at a time.

ohh. any ideas on a wastgate that works well???? for the future??

Nice project you have going there, any pics of the car itself? I have to know what it looks like so when I see it I can toy with you

That is if I ever finish putting it back together

Hey if you need any welding help and can bring the pipes by I could probably weld them up for you. I've got a big Miller welder at work it'll weld anything together. Those flux core style welders suck my second jobs got one and compared to a standard welder there is not contest.

Shoot me an email or pm if you need any help and I can see what I can do.
Oh I've got a innovative mini wastegate for sale, it'll mean redoing your downpipe some but it would have great boost control.

I have run into this guy a few times over the last few years. Always has some kinda Beretta project going on. If I see him, I will see what happened with this

Re: Beretta with Syclone turbo Proj.

Yea, im so broke LOL

i went NA for a short while to have some fun messing around, but i got everythign back on track.

I had to buy a bunch of new stuff. see this is what happens when im not prepaired. i ended up with not enough room under the hood for my air to water and tried to mod an air to air, then that was a waste of time, now i bought a brand new air to air and im waiting for that to arrive. my fuel lines are pretty much done, and i still am waiting on my fuel pump to arrive. so i need to plumb up my intercooler to intake pipeing along with my 1G BOV and now i may go tih an external wastegate, for some reason i don't think i can hold 6-8 pis with the sy turbo...

i sure past my dead line up didn't i. ahhh im always late.

PIC of the car and some random stuff, incase you have not looked its in my sig.....cardomain tag

Re: Beretta with Syclone turbo Proj.

yeah like 6 months later i guess its finally done. i have been doing a whole lot of nothing. LOL

I have alot more pics but ill post just the more interesting ones. I have not run at the track yet. I am tunning it tommorow morning and possible sunday morning ill run it at the track, but its really cold outside now. My exhaust is not done, but just the downpipe is under the car. and alot of clean up under the hood and header wrap on all my pipes.

enough rambbling here are some pics.

these are 2 1/4" pipes that will merge into 2 1/2" pipes for the intake tubing. thats a 1G BOV. I painted everything flat black just so you can't see it much

The 2 1/2" intake piping. painted Aluminum 1500 degree ceramic paint. also on the downpipe. to see how it holds up. I had the car running well over 30 min and has not melted off. cool stuff.
