I was wondering what everyone's opinion was... which company does everyone think provides the best gas?

chevron, texaco, union76, BP, etc...

i know chevron/texaco merged, but according to them texaco in the USA is not affiliate w/ chevron/texaco. they are with Motiva and Equilon Enterprises.

Amaco is supposed to be the cleanest. I think it comes in the viper and the vettes. I never put anything less than 93 in my Sy.

GM TURBO

I generally run Amoco 93 or Mobil 93. I have run the cheaper (no name fuels) and haven't had much of an issue as long as I use 93 octane.

I am teh kingpin!
i use to only run thortan or clark 100.

then i just used alky, so i used mobile 93.

amoco i dont trust, too many new reports on tainted gas in the chicago area from them. includding the one in my area.

I believe some of the local F body guys did some interesting tests on this subject. They ran all sorts of pump gas, and datalogged with Autotap (Datamaster sorta doohicky). They checked knock counts etc, and found that some gas station companies were inconsistent. As in, one Shell 93 fillup would yield no knock, next Shell 93 stop would yield lotsa knock.

I'm pretty sure they consensus was that Mobil 93 was the most consistent good gas to run. I'll try to pull up the real data on it, but this was (to the best of my recollection) just pump gas tests, no 100 octane etc.

My sister-in-law used to work at the Shell distribution facility near Lima, OH. She said BP, Marathon, Shell, etc, etc. tanker trucks rolled in and out of the pumping center. I think it is just like motor oil, it is all pretty much the same stuff, just different marketing techiniques.

These trucks are cursed
well here in cali theyve been kind enough to stick it to us with no jelly.

oddly enough they dropped the octane one point, yet we still get charged the same price of 92. the idea of alky injection is starting to grow on me, simply because my truck knocks and runs like shit on 91, and its too far away and too much of an inconvenience to go get 100 just so my truck drives right under normal conditions.

but aside from all that, i ran at the track with arco 91, and ran 8.7, the next time i ran with mobil 91 and ran 8.6. hmmmmm...

IMO,mobil, sunoco.amoco,bp (which are owned by the same company so theres no difference)and quiktrip.i get better mileage with the QT

I had a service mgr at my local Chevy dealer show me a bulletin from GM. It was not to be for public viewing and basically stated that GM had done research on most of the big name brands of fuels for cleanliness (carbon deposits on valves & pistons ect...) and Mobil came out the cleanest by far. I think I remember seeing Texaco, Exxon, Sunoco, Merrit, BP and a few others. It was made very clear they were not advacating the usage of Mobil and this was not for public eyes. It was out before Mobil & Exon merged. Sunoco's 94 doesn't cut it in my SY. Rough idle and knocking as early as 3200 r.p.m. Put good fuel (over 100 octane) in it, the idle smooths right out and it does not knock. I'm in CT. Merrit was a discount chain that ran well in my daily driver and did not leave the O2 sensor very dirty. They have recently been replaced with BP stations. Truck is stock with the exception of a chip & air cleaner.

I did some data logging on diff gas (all 93 oct) to see who was best when I first got datamaster.

Shell 93 was the best I found and its always consistant tank to tank so far (.....and I burn LOTS of it  ).

Amaco was just as good but there isnt one convenient to me so I don use it. Ran two tanks and both were as good as Shell.

BP gave me <.5 deg KR than the above. Not convenient for me either so I only ran two tanks of it.

Only other gas I tried was Exxon. KR went to 4-5 deg so I have never bothered with it again.

This is just in my area and havent tested any fuels anywhere else.

HTH..

Hey Mike,

Only use the Chevron at the corner of Gilman and Front St. in Issaquah.
J/K

I only went to texaco or chevron when I lived in WA, and the occasional fill up of 100 out at the Shell in Bothell.

Later,
Scott

I run the Citgo 93. The Citgo by my house also has 100 octane "Race Fuel". So every other fill up, I put around 4-5 Gallon's of 100 in the tank. I pay 3.40ish per gallon for the 100 octane.
