Best parts for stock vortec heads

Well, to save some money, I think I'm going to go with stock vortec heads. However, I want to make sure that they'll stand up to the other parts I'm putting into the truck. What would be the best parts to order if this is what's going to be on the inside of the engine?

3.75 billet stroker crank
je pistons
5.7 oliver rods
422 comp cam kit

Also, when I get the new cam, would it be better to get the entire kit, or will my stock valvetrain work? Thanks for any insight

When I had my heads done, I bought the springs and stuff to match the cam from Comp Cams. I have had no problems.

The flow of the vortecs is sufficient in stock form for your mods, as stated above, when ordering the cam get the proper valve springs recommended by the cam company. I had to use the beehive springs, and mount them upside down per comp cams tech assistance in order to get the right spring rate without machining the spring seats for larger diameter springs.

for the mods you want to do go with 2.055/1.60 valves and for the cam the comp 987-12 dual springs, 740-12 steel retainers and the matching locks are 611-12, and get the7940-12 pushrods and on my engine im using the 3136 comp double roller timing chain set. Also using the comp 1318-12 1.6 pro mag rockers and the ARP stud kit for a 60 degree V6 work great if you have the 2004+ vortecs like me.

My build is pretty much like yours, minus the billet crank. Good luck.

Wow, that's a good idea. What do you use for a retainer if the valve spring is upside down?

If you ran the springs upside down, wouldn't that make the base even narrower and the situation worse?

If you are building a stout stroker motor , why arent you at least converting the vortecs to the larger valves . A stock vortec head conversion doesnt really fit the rest of that build .

I would re-think your build. Have you done this before? I haven't heard of anyone with experience wanting to do a forged, stroked bottom end with a large cam and stock heads. Are you sure the 422 cam will work for you? Isn't this motor NA?

Old topic, but I'm no longer doing the 6... going with an LS2 instead. Yep, yep.
