^^X2^^ And if you cut the engine off clean at the end of the run, coast off the track, and have a buddy tow you back to your pit area with another car where you read them there, even better. Plugs loose color very quickly when you idle around.

x2 on the tow-back. I can get by with making the turn to the return lane, gassing it to get up to speed, and then coast back to the timeslip shack. Tow/push from there.

The "cleanest" read you'll get is a shutdown at the big end, and a tow all the way down. If you want to read plugs for WOT conditions, you have to do WOT conditions only.

Here's a copy of Bruce's old "Plug Cuts" article

Some other really good ones:

Sites that just show you a bunch of used plugs in various stages of wear/death are fairly useless- you won't see those conditions until it's too late. With clean plugs and a few WOT passes, you can generally determine which cyls are having issues. It's a bit more of a PITA for us, due to the ugly plug positioning.

Keep a close eye on your tune, b/c with the cometics you may be changing pistons next time. They are not so forgiving. The stock head gaskets should work fine as long as you don't detonate them. I'm always a bit weary using cometics unless your block and heads have been machined for them and are cleaned GOOD!

Ended up with Fel-Pro 1032's. Heads are on and torqued. Now it's bolting stuff back on. Inj's are being flowed. Once I have them and their numbers I'll match them to certain cyls.
