I had the opportunity to line up next to an M5 at Infineon Raceway earlier this year. He ran 12.83@113mph, which is respectable, but I guess I was expecting more. E55s run low 12s stock, so I guess I wasn't all that impressed. I made sure he saw nothing but Sy taillights all the way down the track  Here's a video of the race: http://www.v-blok.com/11.95@112.wmv and there was a bone stock SL65 TT there as well running 12.4s...here's that video: http://www.v-blok.com/SL65_V12_BiTurbo.wmv. There's a Mom in an E55 wagon that runs 12.7s at that track too...pretty cool.

I remember that night J....props again on a F'n SICK race!

Re: Bmw M5

From what I understand, the E63 is actually slower than the E55 and was a big disappointment to many hardcore E55 guys. Search the MB forums for more info.

What the US versions of the M5s do not have that the Euro specs do, is a performance launch mode. If the US cars had this, it would make a race from a stop even closer for the M5, and have him pass you that much sooner. I have driven one of these several times, and they are damn fast.

M5 SLOW, hahahaha. We all think our sytys are so fast. Sure, they are relatively fast ...for the day but lots of things out there need to be taken seriously.

E55 is next purchese. Light mods (pully, larger intercooler pump, throttle body, ECU, new carbon fiber air box, and possible alcohol/meth injection?) for about 650/700. It's going to be my daily driver, only problem is I will feel like a jack ass if I blow a 20K AMG engine lol.

all the more reason to stick with the LS engines...they are just awesome and plenty you can do to them for a decent price.

Re: Bmw M5

You get what you pay for.I have a benz with over half a million miles on it. Original trans original engine. Built like an M1A1 Abrams. Had a buick that fell apart and the engine fubared at 120k.

I just don't enjoy the cheap feeling inside the cabin of new GM vehicles. If I pay 70'gs for a Vette, I don't want to snag my finger on a loose piece of plastic molding left overs when I change the radio station. Plus my buddy has a really fast vette and I can't wait to eat him up in a sedan.

Re: Bmw M5

You should already know, 77' 300D. No turbo, if that was the case it would probably already be dead. Odomoter stopped at 288,XXX in 1989. Stopped daily driving it 4 years ago, but she can still do 70 with with its 3 speed auto. Shitty compression, and it probably has about 75 hp left, but it still runs and is dependable. I know a E55 won't last near that long (boost), mabye 125k, but I bet it will last longer then a SS Impala, like my boss just bought.

125K on an E55, I think not, those motors are strong and many have over 200k.....sorry, just a fact. C63/55 next for me!!!!
