Dave is 100% correct, and in addition to what he stated, the tool that was necessary to press the ball joints out of the control arm, resulted in crushing the tip of the ball joint, as it was so firmly stuck in the control arm.
Not only that, but the original ball joints are riveted in place, so mine required some serious destruction before all 5 of those hefty rivets broke loose. I said this project was a big, big one, because (for me) there were major roadblocks around every corner I turned. I guess the biggest problem was that I wasn't prepared for the job to be as big as it was. So that's why I'm giving you notice ahead of time
