boost control solenoid question..

i pulled off my boost control solenoid yesterday because i was badly overboosting. when i pulled off the foam filter that is on one of the ends of the solenoid i noticed it was full of some oily grease. i used my air compressor to blow it out carefully. what i was wondering was if that breather being clogged would cause a really bad overboost condition?

I would think you wouldn't build as much boost if there was a restriction in the nipple because causing wastegate would open sooner. I replaced the foam with a piece of foam I cut out from a was applicator. It has not melted so far.
