bottom out problem

lookin for some help. replaced front end on my typhoon, bottom out bumpers were wasted so i also ordered new ones from the dealer. my truck looks like it sits level, actually a little high in the front, but the bumpers are only about 1/8" from the lower control arm, the new bumpers look taller than the old ones but the dealer insist they are the right ones, my old ones were pretty wasted but not that large as far as i can tell. does anyone know the proper front ride height and where to measure it ? i double checked the part number with another dealer and they said they were correct. or maybe if someone knows how tall the original bottom out bumper were so i could grind mine down for more clearance , just dont want to shorten them to much.

how long are the new ones exactly? you should only need maybe 2"s of bump stop for it to do what it needs to do..... ( prevent metal from contacting metal during extreme suspension compression ).

1/8" is nowhere near enough suspension travel. your truck will ride like total ass if it only has 1/8" to compress before it hits the bump stop.

thanks, im thinking the ones they sold me might be for a 4x4 , the height of they is about 3 1/2 " , im thinking i could just take them out and whack off about a inch of the rubber , id still have over two inchs of bumper left , unless someone knows where i can locate a set of the proper bumpers, thats the way id rather go, dont like to butcher stuff, would rather do it right .

honestly I don't think you really need them..........of course I can only speak from 2wd experience, but my truck is lowered with 2" spindles, and 1" springs and comes nowhere near hitting the bumpstops even during extremes, like hitting the unfortunate pothole etc....

maybe 2wd bumpstops would fit?? that I could not answer, but I can tell you I have never made contact with mine......

I removed the rear bumpstops as well, and my frame and axle have enevr made contact. ever.

hope this helps.

a stock truck almost rides on the bumpstops as it sits.

GM didn't do anything special other than a different spring rate. To drop these trucks they turned down the torsion bars and thats it.
